Looks like someone is working on things again. At the moment "Jump to first new post" is now broken another way.
"Jump to first new post in thread automatically"
The user is directed to the page with the newest post. Not the newest post itself. If there is only 1 page the behavior is the same in that the user is not directed to the newest post either.

EDIT: The work around to fix that is to set 1 post per page.

Looks like this may be fixed and working in all situations as of now.

Edit: I find the jump to first new post is working & posted are loaded as expected now. Yay!
Hopefully the other broken feature I listed in my previous post gets fixed. If we are lucky they may even add the feature to see all posts in reply/quoting.

Yes jump to unread posts works again. I've tried 15 posts per page in setting, and forum jumps to the correct post and not to page 1 as it did in the start.

Had the initial change been like this then it wouldn't have been so bad, or if the changes were implemented else ware first. Such as on beta or the BOINC forum first to work out the bugs. Maybe that wasn't possible. It could be that all 3 are using the same code with just different user databases.

With the other feature still broken I am still going keep displayed message high enough to prevent pagination at this time.

Nobody actually uses the forums at Beta. This makes developing there a bit difficult.

In any case, we have been discussing the problems by email with DA. He has been responsive to problem reports.

I can't tell whether the new forums are more responsive or not. They certainly feel more responsive, but the change over coincided precisely with an upgrade in internet speed at my house.

I am going to guess it is just your new connection. They seem the same to me. With intermittent bursts of sluggishness.Possibly from changes that were on going or from random bots slamming the server again. Over the past few days, at work, I've had pages time out or take much longer to load than normal.

If you have been passing on the issues we have been listing. Thanks for that.

Bug fixes first. Then we can hound him to implement the other things to make it more user friendly!

I was not the person passing on the issues. However, they have been passed on.

There are a few, that I'm aware of, that take their time to convey information back and forth & I'm sure everyone appreciates it.

Have you actually tried to browse the forums on your phone? My home internet has been out for two days and it is the only way I have been able to reach the forums. Your suggestion is not a workable solution.

No. My phone doesn't know anything about Internet. Reading your later post, yes, the only option for you is to get the threads in smaller pieces. And that suggestion was not meant as a solution for everybody even if I may have worded it like that. Just something someone might find useful.

Just to clear any possible misunderstandings. I'm not against this change. I'm also not against the old version. Both versions appear have their pros and cons. For me either one works.

I was just doing some testing on my phone with the forums.

		Desktop Mobile
Cafe thread list
		~1 second	~6 seconds
Word Link # 31 with ~550 posts
		~3 second	~15 seconds

For a fast mobile device it seems to be OK. However with slower or waning connections that 15 seconds would probably turn into something terrible.

That looks good, I am going to try that. [EDIT] I mean I am going to try the how to sort. :)

The latest thing I'm noticing, is tonight when I reply to a thread the thread does not refresh properly. I.e. not all posts show per my settings, nor will the end of the thread show, where your new message is. Even refresh doesn't fix it, you have to go back to the forum and click on the thread again for it to show everything, (as my settings will allow up to 750 posts)

Check the top right of the thread and I bet you will see it listed as newest first.

DA changed that option so after you post it changes to that.

You are very correct. That is indeed what's up.

Ummm, is the goal here with these changes to upset all of us??? <grumble>

I'll say it one more time and hope it's at least considered:

TAPATALK!... Many of us modern day forum folks have this app on our phones, both Android AND iOS users....... This would solve the issues for mobile forum users, and give us access through an app we are very familiar with. Also this would eliminate any need for changes to our existing forums.

All we need is someone to build the hooks into the Boinc related forums... This would cost the devs nothing. I guess one drawback is tapatalk is not free, but it's extremely cheap, under 3$USD, and more and more forums are building in access to Tapatalk...

"Sort: Newest post first" is how I've had it set from day one. And with "goto first new message" set, it goes to the next message after the last one read, and I work my way up to the top. If I want to go back over old messages, I can, but normally only the last couple I read, to refresh my memory.

So for me, the only thing that changed was that threads now have pages, and 1 page of 40 loads faster than a many-hundred post thread. I see no value in loading an entire many-hundred message thread just to see the 10 or 15 posts made since the last time I visited. (Maybe a whole lot less work for the database, too.) YMMV.

Other than Dr. A. not announcing or explaining the changes before installing them, I don't see what so many of you are upset about.

One problem still exists, page number order in the threads is backwards, page 1 should be the start page of a thread, not the current page, this someone can refer to a page in a thread...

That will depend on what "Sort Order" you have set in the top right corner of the thread page and/or your "Community Preferences"..

If you have "Newest first", page 1 will show the most recent posts.
If you have "Oldest first", page 1 will show the 1st message in the thread.

Just noticed - when you come back from the post reply screen the order is set to "newest first", even when you had "oldest first" set as your default.

But if you leave that topic and re-enter it you are back to your own default - most confusing.

It's gone nuts, I have it set to show oldest first, I post a comment and it (just now) has re-orderd to newest first again, even though I set it at the top of the page to oldest first (again). AND, then again it's gone to the first page after posting.

Various websites have a mobile version of their site (https://m.youtube.com/ for example) Shurly(?) it's not to much to ask for something similar if the mobile traffic to the forums is that high. Could've at least kept the previous format as a choice.
