Not wholly unrelated, but less organic.

What goes up must come down. It is still true, but it may take a while, and there is no guarantee about where it comes down.

Bernoulli's principle and airplane aerodynamics. (don't know if they teach that to children though)

Think about why a wing produces lift

Now think about what children are taught about the airflow over the wings that causes lift.

(Maybe this is just UK schools, perhaps US ones have stopped teaching this since it's incorrect)

Air flows over the top of the wing faster then the bottom so it creates a vaccum there by creating lift. Is how we learned it I think, Mind you I havent been in school for 41 years now.

That's correct.

The snippet i was looking for is that school children (certainly over here) are taught that because the air travelling over the top of the wing has further to go, it has to travel faster in order to catch up with the air below the wing. Otherwise known as the equal transit time theory.
It's not true, air does flow faster over the top, thereby creating lift due to lower pressure, but it doesn't somehow have a need to catch up to the air it left behind that went under the wing, and indeed doesn't.

James, you were as good as there, your turn.
