I have not seen this before, though I haven't been doing this nearly as long as most of you...
It appeared for a while and so I took a couple pics with my phone and was thinking someone else must know what it is and have a simple explanation for it. I am talking about the "wave" looking pattern in the spectrum. It's like a slope of silence. Pardon my ignorance, I'm sure it's simple.

Well spotted, but sorry, no cigar...

That's a well known data acquisition artefact at 1.42GHz for the recorded and split data. There's more details to be found about the dip/trough elsewhere on the forums and FAQ.

Yes there is, Erich; always something interesting comes up once in a while
especially what you had here. It may have not amounted to anything this time
but next time it could.

Erich,
You did well anyway reporting it here. Its good that people keep an eye on things. And as Nick says, you never know when one of those graphs could be showing you a call from ET.

Anyway, the screen-shots do look really cool! If ET did call, i would like it to look like that on my screen....LOL

Thanks for the encouragement guys! Isn't there supposed to be something in the software that would alert me/us/SETI/unknown government/private agencies (droppin' them eves)?

Erich,
No. There are no "alerts" in the software that is running on your PC. It does not alert anyone, thats not how it works.

The software on your PC scans through the work units looking for repetitive sequences that the SETI scientists are interested in. When the work unit is finished, your PC sends that result back to the SETI scientists here in Berkeley university. If many computers report finding the same unusual signal in many work units from the same part of the sky, then the SETI scientists would manually take a look to check it out.

There are lots of very unusual radio signals coming from space. So its important that the SETI scientists themselves check the data. Thats how it works. Don't worry, if they find something in one of your work units, they will let you know!!
