Oh, make a distinction between numbers and credits will you.

Numbers mean detection of a possible signal, credits mean how much (or how many tasks) I have uploaded after finishing up and were given credit because they were complete and successful.

In some cases, there were tasks which were returning "invalid numbers" or, in the worst case scenario, gaussians which were thought to be going down in the negative, at least during the running of a certain task.

For orders sake, most background gaussians in a running task are having a score of between -12 and -13. In some cases or instances, scores of -9 were being observed. Still, many results are having gaussian scores +0.5 or better because of the detection mechanism. The Seti team who is responsible for the lab as well as the master science database is most concerned or bother about gaussian scores above 6.

Right now, you don't see these scores too often. These scores are generally thought of as being generously created signals by visitors visiting our earth by means of traveling through space using the general or special theory of relativity, where either space itself, or possibly time is the main constraint or culprit as well as main option.

Some numbers being recorded and obtained in the past may suggest and otherwise give both an indication as well as proof of such extraterrestrial visitors as well as precence. In fact, I do have most of these numbers myself.

If you listen to the musicplayer backwards there are hidden messages in it,
I am shure i heard something . . . . .

Yep, if you smoke a funny cigarette while listening standing on your head, its a message from Elvis.

Or maybe....
Instead of infecting a bunch of networked computors with a virus.
An hello and welcome message from outer space would be as likely.

But I wonder if any human could understand a welcome message directed to our networked computors if such a message would be sent.

It's not very likely that the aliens understand that there are human beings behind the computors.

That is good news. I was actually worried about that, since so many hackers with time on their hands want to destroy data anywhere at anytime. I am starting all over again with the Seti project because of a virus and lost all of my data. Appreciate the info.

With all ya geeks and burnouts commenting, it gave me the insight with all your creative posts to point out an aspect that none of you attempted to point out.

Viruses are made for defective products which were deliberately designed to fail, where the people who designed AV software benefited from suckering in those who generally socially accepted the principal of buying defective software, which required to run bloated software without being allowed to own the AV software and rather having to buy subscriptions to the software such to effectively hold the end-user ransom to use their PC for annual monies owed to the software giants. To further their objectives, the hardware manufacturers endorsed the giants to deliberately re-code the operating system in such a way that all your hardware and software is incompatible every five years which renders your older hardware to the landfill. This pollutes your water supply in hopes for other water giants can sell you bottled water which was packaged near a tailing pond near you.

All in all, it is in the design of things, purely intentional or accidentally exploited to irritate, cost and pollute. I am sure some of us would have enjoyed being able to learn how to do somthing when we were kids, and still be able to use that knowledge, but when things are so-deliberately changed so often, whats the use?

If the aliens are watching us, they better do a good job encrypting their electromagnetic communication systems so we don't discover them and possibly infect them with our backward commercialism ideals.

Besides, we spend money to run this software on our computer in electricity costs, and we don't benefit from it in any way as the people who use our computers hold the discoveries in patent to themselves, to be locked away until they see the best financially viable opportunity to release the technology or decide to educate us. Or that any SETI discovery be censored from public eyes with the deliberately implanted idea that it is dangerous or harmful. hmm.. I am sure you guys can continue from where I left off as I am sure you know where I am going with this one.

We are sheep, pass the beer.

Always gonna be that idiot who is complacent about the side effects of dangerous activities. Why do you think there is a thing called Russian Roulette? Cause it is in our nature.

Now back to browsing porn sites which I know are coded with trojans and back doors, but I don't care as when my computer dies, I can buy a new and improved one which can be infected with more crap before I need to buy yet another one. If it ain't broke, lets find a way to break it.

Sorry, I can't agree with this premise at all. Viruses are nothing more than computer programs that are designed to cause havok on the system for which the virus was written (it is for this reason that the possibility of saving mankind by giving the alien mothership a "cold" a la Independence Day is completely laughable without hundreds of scientists studying the CPU and OS architecture of the target system).

All systems designed by imperfect beings have imperfections in their design. It is up to a good code writer to find those flaws and take advantage of them in code written as a virus. This can happen to any system - not just products that are "deliberately designed to fail".

Besides, we spend money to run this software on our computer in electricity costs, and we don't benefit from it in any way as the people who use our computers hold the discoveries in patent to themselves, to be locked away until they see the best financially viable opportunity to release the technology or decide to educate us.

Not true. There are guidelines in place to give credit to all participants who make the discovery. No one is going to patent any discoveries. By the way, Men In Black was just a fictional movie.

Or that any SETI discovery be censored from public eyes with the deliberately implanted idea that it is dangerous or harmful. hmm.. I am sure you guys can continue from where I left off as I am sure you know where I am going with this one.

Straw man argument. Who is going to do the shielding? And how long can they keep the facade up? How many people would need to be involved to keep it a secret? The more people that know the secret, the larger the chance that the secret comes out. Very high probability that it won't happen that way at all, but I do note that it is interesting how many people think this way.

I've just got an alert from ET Antivirus 2013 telling me my system is infected. They only want fifty klaygaars for a twenty leeptoo licence, sounds like a bargain :)

If it sounds too good to be true it probably is :-))

Is Beatle Paul still dead?

So really, a Virus fell through a Wormhole in Space and recorded itself on a 360k floppy in the 1970s in a garage on a computer belonging to a couple of dropouts from Harvard who said "wow, we could make millions if we sold this rubbish"?

Well, that explains everything then, Windows is an ET Virus ROTFLMAO !!!

No, it just fell from a paralell universe and was baked into the silicon wafers of which CPUs and GPUs are made ;-)

The article was extremely interesting (almost as much as this thread) but of course is speculation as, not having made CONTACT, we have no facts as to what any ET is interested in or capable of. But speculation is great in that it gets us to think and look in different directions. Of course the speculation was clearly based on facts we do have here on Earth. But what about that contest that was recently advertised on TV about ordinary people being allowed to broadcast their own messages into space? Could that be like putting a target on our heads?

From what I read on an Italian newspaper, this messaging from Arecibo in the direction of the source of the Wov! signal is sponsored by the National Geographic Society.
Are they looking for subscribers?

Yeah, I always thought that was a bit too easy. In fact, ludicrously so.

All systems designed by imperfect beings have imperfections in their design. It is up to a good code writer to find those flaws and take advantage of them in code written as a virus. This can happen to any system - not just products that are "deliberately designed to fail".

He is implying collusion between Microsoft (and to a lesser degree, other OS developers) and antivirus developers. I think that if such were occurring, the Justice Department would have taken action by now. Before you say they're in on it too, also consider all the various European Justice Ministries that have repeatedly gone after MS for things our DoJ hasn't. Besides, Microsoft Security Essentials is a free product.

Not in this project anyway. I avoid some Boinc projects just because the results could end up being patented for profit.

By the way, Men In Black was just a fictional movie.

But.. but... but.. you mean Rodman and Gingrich aren't aliens???

Or that any SETI discovery be censored from public eyes with the deliberately implanted idea that it is dangerous or harmful. hmm.. I am sure you guys can continue from where I left off as I am sure you know where I am going with this one.

The writers of Stargate: SG1 got pretty good mileage out of the "go ahead and tell anyone you want, who will believe you?" ploy.

If I were an ALIEN, infection with an TROJAN would make much more sense since these are created to return INFORMATION of any kind.

A virus 'only' messes up a running O.S. why would that be 'helpfull' ?

But the idea alone makes no sense at all, IMHO?!
And were should it come from, except the received radio data, at 1.4GHz.?

It would/should/could be hidden in a sequence of Spikes/Pulses/Triplets or
Gaussians
, which we clearly can not decrypt, a.t.m.?!

I get the impression that people who are against the idea to make 'contact'
with an 'alien species', are behind this and maybe also probably AV manufactors?!

And why a virus, since there're much more advanced ways to 'interact' with
our 'communication' and/or computers.............

IMHO, it's B***S***, nonsense, etc..

A 'real virus', would make much more sense and could be devostating....
