So I see the Obamacare TAX act is legal. I guess those poor people better get ready to pay some real tax. I must say I am a bit surprised at how a democratic president could create a huge regressive tax but then again the poor won't have to pay this tax until after Obama becomes a lame duck ... |

The Obama admin argued that it wasn't a tax. Now the SC says it is a tax, and a legal tax at that. So my question is how will the government enforce this tax on people here illegally? House will vote on repeal week of July 9 All academic since it won't get past the Senate. me@rescam.org |

Indeed, and here I thought you favored Romney and Ryan in part for THEIR regressive tax plans. Who knew? By the way, the vote to define it as a TAX was 5 - 4 (Roberts was the decisive vote). The vote to say the law was constitutional under the commerce clause was defeated in the Supreme Legislature by a 5 to 4 vote. So I see the Obamacare TAX act is legal. I guess those poor people better get ready to pay some real tax. The next thing we'll see is that fire departments will no longer be privately funded and we will all be forced to pay for them -- socialism for sure. Oh wait... Yeah! Socialism is winning in the USA! I can't wait to start reaping the benefits of this great president! For sure I'm voting for Him in November! |

Does it really make a big flying groan? The Government has been porking us ever since they decided they wanted a whiskey tax. Hell they even sent troops to enforce it. Reminds me of when MaCarthur sicked the troops on the bonus marchers in the early 20's. [/quote] Old James |

I've got some gripes with Obamacare... The only positive outcome I can fathom, is that the mandates requiring uninsured individuals to purchase healthcare, will lead to universal healthcare, after much debate on the governments part and further damage to the lower class. Requiring uninsured (poor) people to pay for something they cannot afford... hmmm, I think this is going to get messy. No sir I don't like it, I never really did. I just hope there's some grand scheme at work here that I'm not seeing... #resist |

Dave, I believe there are offsets that are available to the uninsured poor to reduce the burden. Where this really operates as a tax is for the uninsured middle income folks, particularly those between 26 and say 40 who often (if not covered by their employer) have elected to not pay for coverage. But I agree with you that universal coverage would be a preferred end point -- which I really doubt you or I will see given the 19th century politics that prevail on this issue today. One outcome we might see with this -- shifts from health insurance inclusions by businesses. For businesses today, health insurance is a major cost element. One of the major reasons that businesses started including health insurance was the tax implications. The current code means not only is health insurance a business expense (ie one of the tax deductions that Ryan in theory would need to eliminate), but also, it isn't treated as income for the employee (ie one of the other tax deductions that Ryan in theory would need to eliminate). Also, health insurance was added by businesses in WW II when wage/price controls were in effect -- it was one of the few ways to keep workers when they could change jobs in a very tight labor market. |

There are some misinformed folks who believe that health care and health insurance have not risen at all in the past 20 years. I am being kind describing them as misinformed. The fact of the matter is that we all have been paying more and more for health care -- at an increase far greater than that of other cost of living components (except perhaps the cost of college education). It's strikes me that some of this 'misinformed' folks, who seem to take joy in seeing the 99% nailed in other things, should (if they were consistent with their mis (or dis) information) revel in this. But these folks are not consistent - that would be asking a degree of rationality in them that exceeds their capacity or inclination. As for me, actually, the health care costs for me and my wife will go down this year, NOT because of the Supreme court decision, but because my wife will be able to enroll in that other health care socialist plan -- Medicare. So, for her, instead of paying over $800 a month for high deductible health care insurance, she will be paying under half that for a low deductible health care coverage. Ain't socialism grand? |

The las is based on Romney's Insurance law in Massachusetts. Now Romney is stomping around calling the Supreme Court ruling a defense of a law but not a good law. Hmmmm once again Newt... Skil, I've noted before I actually am a Republican: I believe like Teddy Roosevelt that corporations have too much power. I believe like Teddy Roosevelt in the conservation of our environment. I believe like Eisenhower that the power and influence of Military Industrial complex is a danger to this country. I believe like Richard Nixon, that all should have access to birth control I believe like Barry Goldwater that Planned Parenthood is a good cause. I accept the tax rates in place at the end of the Reagan administration. I accept the views that Robert Dole set forth regarding health care access. I believe in the need for immigration reform set forth by John McCain in 2006. I believe in the constraints to corporate political money also pushed by John McCain. I accept in the health care provisions of *RomneyCare* in the Romney 2006 position. I accept Newt Gingrich's position back in 2006 regarding climate change. I view (as Newt did in 2012) that the Ryan budgets are social engineering. I figure that folks who don't support that litany of *Republican* positions must not be Republicans. |

The sarcasm runs so thick in here sometimes it's getting hard to tell which side of the line certain comments are in favor of... Maybe, though, maybe Guy really is becoming left. <lol, NOT> #resist |

As to control of farming and agriculture -- too late -- big corporations (not the government) have control of that. As to health care costs, I KNEW the 1980 Obamacare act caused that. -- Oh wait....
