At the Wednesday morning Veterans Coffee Club, the family of one of our recently-departed Comrades brought in home-made tortillas, arroz con papas, a pot full of diced beef & veggies, and a pot of beans.

Tonight many of us will sleep with the windows open, no matter how hot it is (8{)

Over here we sleep with the window open to stay cool. At night it's only 13°C.

I got a sauna today - I worked in my yard this afternoon.
105F, 60% humidity. Turned the hose on myself a time or two....

Change of mind.

Too many connectors to change mine.
I just pop the lid and air it out once a week.

And the VAMC techs run diagnostics during my annual check-up.

New pizza pub in town serves a pizza with cactus (nopales) and chipotle peppers. Haven't yet got up the courage to try it. Other flavors are pretty good, and so is their beer selection.

Sounds spicy. I do enjoy spicy food myself. In the Italian restaurant I always ask for this spicy oil I put on my pizza. Much more spicy than Tabasco.

I'm hungry and all this talk about food makes me want to get some unhealthy burgers loaded with onions.

Onions - in the burger meat, or on top of it with bacon, tomatoes, grilled mushrooms and cheese?

I always make BLT's. Bacon, lettuce and tomatoes. It has been a long time since I've had one though. Good idea for tomorrow's lunch...

This is starting to sound like a 2nd Rocky's Cafe or Cooks' thread.

My Dad used to make what he called meatballs. Basically his meatloaf recipe (ground beef, diced onions, 1 egg/lb of meat, bread crumbs, tomato sauce, mustard) rolled into about 1/3 pound balls and broiled in the oven. Usually served with smashed potatoes and gravy, and corn. He could have just as easily put a slice of cheese on them and served them as burgers.

They are called "polpette" in Italy. My mom used to make them, very tasty.

Throw some liver into that recipe and they're called Faggots.
