I'm totally new to S@H...I never even knew this type of thing existed. I seen it on the Discovery Channel and thought I'd love to help out. Anyhow, I have quite a few questions I'm hoping the community can help me with...Please place your answers under my questions (in bold, if you want to go that extra step lol)

Firstly, I only have an internet data plan of 15GB a month, I download a lot of stuff and play online with my PS3, so I'd have to assume I'm almost at my max usage each month...how much bandwidth will S@H take up on average? I seem to be completing a task or two a day so far.

When you open up the bionic manager and click on the task tab...you see "in progress" does this mean that I'm constantly exchanging data with the Seti server...thus using bandwidth?

Each task that is given to us...are they all only 107 seconds of data to analyze?

I read in someone other persons thread that he thought the sound of the task he heard sounded like a train...when the screen saver comes on or when I press "show graphics" I don't hear anything...is there a way to turn on the audio? (probably a silly question I know)

If there is an anomaly that takes places during my task being analyzed how would I know? Would there be a spike in the graph?

What if I'm not sitting there all day and watching the screen saver, is there a way to tell if something happened after the fact?

The last question is the big one...As I'm not going to watch the screen saver all day, I still want to know if I received a signal...so how would I go about doing that?

Thanks everyone, that's all I can think of for now.

]Not much, most tasks are small (way under 1MB), with the largest tasks currently being 8MB. So even if you did two 8MB tasks a day (which probably won't ever happen), you'll use less than 500MB a month.

When you open up the bionic manager and click on the task tab...you see "in progress" does this mean that I'm constantly exchanging data with the Seti server...thus using bandwidth?
]Nope. That is activity taking place on your processor. Network activity only happens when completed tasks are reported, or when new tasks are downloaded.

Each task that is given to us...are they all only 107 seconds of data to analyze?
]Nope, there are a few different types of tasks and a few different sizes, so some tasks will process quicker than others, some will take a long time.

I read in someone other persons thread that he thought the sound of the task he heard sounded like a train...when the screen saver comes on or when I press "show graphics" I don't hear anything...is there a way to turn on the audio? (probably a silly question I know)
]No audio to hear. Boinc/seti doesn't make noise Sorry.

If there is an anomaly that takes places during my task being analyzed how would I know? Would there be a spike in the graph?
]I'm not sure if you would see it or not on your screensaver. The project servers handle keeping track of interesting results based on what is reported by participants computers.

What if I'm not sitting there all day and watching the screen saver, is there a way to tell if something happened after the fact?
]Not really. You can see some details of work-units that you have processed on you machine for about 24 hours after they have been validated. Again, the project servers are the machines that keep track of interesting results, nothing for you to worry about there.

The last question is the big one...As I'm not going to watch the screen saver all day, I still want to know if I received a signal...so how would I go about doing that?

If a signal is found, you'll hear about it in the news first I assume. The project will notify the users who "cunched"(processed) the "winning unit".

Thanks everyone, that's all I can think of for now.

Just hang out here, read around the forums and you will learn tons about how everything works. Best wishes and "happy crunching"
