Data From NASA's Voyager 1 Point to Interstellar Future

Data from NASA's Voyager 1 spacecraft indicate that the venerable deep-space explorer has encountered a region in space where the intensity of charged particles from beyond our solar system has markedly increased. Voyager scientists looking at this rapid rise draw closer to an inevitable but historic conclusion - that humanity's first emissary to interstellar space is on the edge of our solar system.

Voyager 1 11.1 billion miles from earth, voyager 2 9.8 billion miles from earth, both are in a bow shock wave caused by the sun. Seems its concentrateing particles.

Brilliant stuff, thanks Lynn :-)

Yes, indeed. Your welcome, Chris
"It is very exciting. We are approaching the solar system's frontier."

Maybe we will find out what this means??

Great update, thanks. So interesting.

I get frustrated when a web page loads slowly. Imagine having the patience to send a signal to Voyager I and then having to wait 33 hours for a response!

Assuming the craft continues to function normally, they will have to start turning off other on-board instruments from 2020, and it is expected to run out of power completely in 2025.

Yes, indeed hope they find something.

A remarkable achievement but they won't find anything since it will take 75000 years to reach the nearest star and thats if it is even aimed at Proxima Centauri. It's a big place out there folks.

One day, in many years to come, when we can travel through space at speeds far
in excess of that possible at the moment, man's quest will be to, "Find Voyagers
and recover"....

Not sure it wouldn't be best to let them carry on and see "who else" finds them!

Apparently in the future the Klingons come across one of the voyagers and destroy it :(

The Klingons are now relegated to the annals of history. One suspects, via
their constant fighting, that they may well have become extinct by now.
Can't say the same about the Dalek's though, their bound to be out there
somewhere.

A band led by a Voyager engineer also played "Johnny B. Goode," one of the songs from the Golden Record. The Golden Record is a 12-inch, gold-plated copper disk containing sounds and images selected to portray the diversity of life and culture on Earth.

The music alone, images, should scare a fictional warrior race. If they are found, please let it be from the planet Antarea. They formed an outpost on the planet Earth, on an island known to mankind as the mythical civilization of Atlantis; according to legend, Atlantis sank as the result of an earthquake.

I still feel that once we achieve the ability to travel through space
at or near the speed of light then Voyager travelling through space with
a human message attached will be viewed as that similar to placing a message in
a bottle and throwing it over-board from a sailing ship. With this view in mind
I strongly feel that we will one day recover the Voyagers and bring them back
home to rest.
