... if you don't believe the free market is always good for you, you must be a socialist. With (effective) monopolies and corruption, or even with just plain simple dodgy practices, our "free market" does not have complete and fair freedom... In the name of profits, all and everything is unethically 'fair'?... Is the ruthless fast-foods industry any better than the tobacco industry or the fossil fuels industry? (Note: That is NOT to excuse any of them.) It's all our only world, Martin See new freedom: Mageia Linux Take a look for yourself: Linux Format The Future is what We all make IT (GPLv3) |

In the name of profits, all and everything is unethically 'fair'?... Is the ruthless fast-foods industry any better than the tobacco industry or the fossil fuels industry? (Note: That is NOT to excuse any of them.) Fast-food and tobacco industries are bound by the same Fiduciary Duty to the shareholder, to make money every possible way, including immoral ones. There shouldn't be any surprise here. |

Gary, you may be on to something here. First, to deal with the US budget deficit do the following: 1) Eliminate Medicaid 2) Privatize Medicare 3) Privatize the VA 4) Repeal ACA 5) Eliminate duty of care Then on the corporate side you need to match this with 1) Eliminate all corporate regulation 2) Elimination of Fiduciary Duty to the shareholder Fair's fair. The end result, a better America. Guy (real) would be thrilled, Guy (sarcastic opposite) would be aghast <smile>.

In the name of profits, all and everything is unethically 'fair'?... Is the ruthless fast-foods industry any better than the tobacco industry or the fossil fuels industry? (Note: That is NOT to excuse any of them.) No surprise on this one then: Why food 'traffic-light' labels did not happen Britain came close to adopting a traffic-light system of compulsory food labelling to grade the health impact of food products - but, as Jacques Peretti reports, opposition from within the food industry prevented it happening. ... So, really, ALL and anything despicable is 'fair' except unto themselves?... All on our only planet... So, really, ALL and anything despicable is 'fair' except unto themselves?... Fair plays no part. Fiduciary duty is the only game. |

So, really, ALL and anything despicable is 'fair' except unto themselves?... That is a very lame and evil non-excuse. So... It's 'ok' to be an assassin if it "pays"?... For example, is this example "good" and "good for profits"?... Nestlé boycott - baby milk scandal Groups such as the International Baby Food Action Network (IBFAN) and Save the Children claim that the promotion of infant formula over breastfeeding has led to health problems and deaths among infants... ... groups and charities have accused Nestlé of unethical methods of promoting infant formula... It is illegal in this country at least to sell fraudulently or to sell shoddy goods or goods that cause harm... Why should the food industry be exempt? I found the secret to weight loss. I'll let you guys in on it. I call it the U.S. Marine Corps weight loss program. It consists of three things. This is basically what I think. People with low or no self control want to blame anything or anyone else for their lack of self control. If you are too fat simply stop eating so much. Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. This no longer applies in light of current events. |

So, really, ALL and anything despicable is 'fair' except unto themselves?... It isn't an excuse, it is the law, at least in this country. So... It's 'ok' to be an assassin if it "pays"?... They are exempt because you gave them license to be exempt. If you don't think you did, then bring an action. Carping just creates hot air and adds to global warming. |

The free market at work. Looks kinda flat to me. The previous TV was more bodacious, but told me I did not prefer that. |

Q) What caused the obesity crisis in the West? A) Think of all the poor starving children in [insert country here] Momma and Dadda taught you well. Clean that plate. Now when big bad food company puts 1.5 servings in a can ... you get fat. |

Too much sugar and salt added to our processed foods. You can't really go by the calorie counts on any product details as written on their products package labels. I have a can of Heinz baked beans, a can of Sainsbury's reduced sugar and salt baked beans plus a can of Sainsbury's Basic brand baked beans. The following is the stated calories per 100 grams. Heinz.................................79/100 grams Sainsbury's reduced sugar and salt....90/100 grams Sainsbury's Basic.....................49/100 grams. What's wrong here? The Sainsbury's reduced sugar and salt beans have more calories per 100 grams than the Heinz beans do yet the Sainsbury's beans show on the label as has having much less sugar and salt in them than the Heinz one's do? Anyway, if you eat foods with less sugar and salt in them like the Sainsbury's Basic brands has then you can eat heartily and without getting fat. Q) What caused the obesity crisis in the West? If someone ever invents a teleporter the first use should be in kitchens to send leftovers to 3rd world countries. :-) #resist |

Is this where Big Food Industry gets it's just deserts? Big Tobacco lawyers target food industry The lawyers who took on the big US tobacco companies, and won, have now set their sights on the food industry. I wonder if the Tobacco Industry Marketeers are also plying their immoral devious trade for food aswel as Fossil Fuels? Also, when might campaigning lawyers take on the Fossil Fuels industry?... All on our only world, Martin Not sure if this one is better placed for the Cafe...! :-( See new freedom: Mageia Linux Take a look for yourself: Linux Format The Future is what We all make IT (GPLv3) |

Well at least I'm safe enough.... BMI is a bunch of Hooey. A few years ago I checked my BMI while being an avid bicycle rider(200 miles a week) My BMI was 31. a man that is 6'5" and 240 but with less than 10% body fat is considered obese. Its an absurd measurement. In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

Part of the problem is that everyone uses these online BMI tools which are not fully accurate. You need to visit your doctor so they can accurately measure your BMI. Yes, they did move the goal posts by redefining what everyone's BMI is, and I agree that it put a whole lot of people into the obese category that wasn't necessary. However, I have noticed a lot more overweight/obese people out there lately. My last trip to Olive Garden was filled with people who could only be considered obese by any standard (not the new BMI). |
