http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2012/06/13/unbelieving-preachers-get-help-to-come-out-as-open-atheists/?hpt=hp_t2 It seems there are a lot of people, previously with faith, that observe and learn such that the faith disappears. Bart D. Ehrman, a Biblical scholar with a Phd is a great example. I have referenced him several times before. The more he learned, the less he believed. Steve Warning, addicted to SETI crunching! My wife has read books about several nuns that had the same thing happen. Mother Theresa herself was said to have gone that route, as well as some of her nuns. They spent their whole life trying to help, and at the end, nothing had really changed. Mother Theresa also accepted several million dollars from a man who embezelded it from innocent people in a way similar to Bernie Madoff. When the man was caught and on trial, Mother Theresa sent a letter on his behalf to the court. The court sent back a letter asking her for the money to be returned, as many people lost everything they had. Mother Theresa never replied. Steve Warning, addicted to SETI crunching! "Mother Theresa was not a friend of the poor. She was a friend of poverty. She said that suffering was a gift from God. She spent her life opposing the only known cure for poverty, which is the empowerment of women and the emancipation of them from a livestock version of compulsory reproduction." --- Christopher Hitchens Side note: One of the interesting celebrities who recently "came out" as a non-believer is Morgan Freeman... interesting because he played God twice. :^) |
