However, after 3 days solid of running the SETI 'app'. My GPU is reaching temperatures of 55c. Is there any way to adjust the settings for 90% GPU usage instead of 100% so I can keep the temperatures down?

This PC is dedicated and set aside to run the 'app', so I do not check on it very often. I just want to click-n-forget.

The GTX480's are know to run around 80c or 85c.

55c on a 9600 is a very good temp.

Your host details say your machine has a NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GSO 512, the specs for that card as posted on NVIDIA's site say it has a Maximum GPU Temperature of 105c. So 55c is well within the thermal limits of the card, you shouldn't worry about it.

I am indeed running a 9600. Thank you very much for easing my mind. I always aim to keep my CPU and GPU at 40c or under. Since I never let it go beyond this threshold I did not know if this was acceptable. Thanks for the info guys.

I still run a C2Q6600 on an ASUS P5E mobo and CPU temps are, according to
the ASUS display ~100C.
The GTX470 is tuned down to 850MHz, in stead of 1400MHz, cause temps are
reaching 95C or higher.
But this host runs over 3 years and doesn't seem to have problems.
Probably the display of temps is higher then they are in realaty.

1 of my 460 use to run at 96 while the top one ran cooler so I moved the bottom one to my lowest slot and now they run at 72 each on seti they run cooler on milky way about 68 on milky way ands about 40 at idle. Here are my specs

doesnt sound like anything to be worried about to me..

all three of my brand new GT 430's that crunch 24/7 run at 56-60 Celsius, and my GTX 8800M usually ran around 57 but for some reason has jumped to around 80 Celsius over the past week (i should probably look into this). i recently reapplied thermal paste, cleared out all dust from the fans, and got an laptop cooler (coolermaster storm sf-19) which seemed to be helping and keeps the CPU's at around 60 degrees, also while crunching 24/7 with 100% of cores..

anyway you should be okay with that temp. i would caution against removing the side panel of the case and leaving it open as some people do because it actually allows much more dust in and can be detrimental in the long run..

The 'older series' of NVidias GPUs, 8xxx/9xxx/200, weren't made for
24x 7x 365 running at 100%. (A 9800GTX+ started making errors, then a GTS250...)

The FERMIs made this a lot better, although these also can run hot,
~75 - ~95C, is what I see on my 470 and 480. But it's whitin normal range.

Two ATI 5870 do run at ~85C, doing 2 SETI MB WUs a time.

For a 'test', I run 1 host, QX9650@ 3.55GHz + a GTX480(stock), whitout a case
20C cooler, except the GPU, 10% cooler.
PSU (650Watt) doesn't get warm (35C).

do u think i can run 2 WU's at a time on the gt 430s? the 3 computers i have those gt 430's in are dedicated SETI boxes, they do absolutely nothing else besides crunch

They show having 993 MB as reported by BOINC 7.0.25, that's plenty for 2 tasks at a time. Being Fermi cards, they ought to respond well.

My 430 can handle 2 WUs with no issues, and it gives a slightly advantage over crunching just 1... So, not sure if it's worth but certainly they can.
