Running a GTX 560Ti GPU with 480 CUDA cores.

Name NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti
Adapter Type GeForce GTX 560 Ti, NVIDIA compatible
Adapter Description NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti
Adapter RAM 1.25 GB (1,342,177,280 bytes)
CUDA Cores: 448
VGA Driver Version: 285.66
Memory Clock: 1900Mhz
Core Clock: 732Mhz
Shader Clock: 1464Mhz

How can I enable this card to run more than one GPU enabled WU at a time?

Kind regards

you'll need to install the Lunatics apps using the Lunatics installer 0.40

Once installed you can edit your app_info file. THe app_info has lines for the GPU that like this <count>1</count> you'll need to change that to 0.5 for 2 WU's 0.33 for 3 etc.

:D

It would be good if you could give me a Linky Doo to the place where I can download this.

Thanks

Or you can search for your self...
Hit Advanced search (on any page at the top left corner), fill in Lunatics and marvel at the amount of information being thrown back at you. :)

Already done search for the right download.

So either I am not getting this with the mixture of orange and royal blue or my eyesight is failing with so much verbage in the posts.

My head is spinning with the number of choices. Which is the right link for the GTX 560Ti?

Must say this is typical of so many computer people that they do not consider HCI.

If you want to know what HCI stands for. Look it up :D Oh by the way HCI also includes the way colour is presented on websites. The advanced search on the top left will not work. Rackahh

That's the wrong question. ;-)
The right question is, which operating system do you use? If Windows, check http://lunatics.kwsn.net/index.php?module=Downloads;catd=9

(XP? That'll be the 32bit version of the 0.40 installer)

Thanks Ageless

Unlike you I am getting rather old and rather cranky these days :D

Checked the Win XP Pro option and did the download and set it up, I thought.

Now it says the password provided is incorrect.

All WU's across all projects have disappeared . :(

In fact everything has gone blank across all tabs.

Reboot sorted that out :)

Now all I need is to find out what I need to edit and which directory it is placed in. :)

Currently running BOINC 7.0.25 (X86)

Well the GPU is hurtling through WU's at quite a pace. Since posting my original question last night it has done some 120 or so WU's. The majority are in pending ATM.

Love it that its going fast and all that. Just want to be able to push this GPU to see what its capable of.

By the way. This is the first GPU I have owned and only bought at the beginning of May. So I am not very familiar with many of the GPU terms or setting them up.

GPU's are a whole new curve ball in terms of learning to squeeze that little extra out of them.

Downloaded the Lunatics file as suggested and ran that. Now that I know how fast it runs without any tinkering I'll start to play with the count and see how that goes.

Anyone any clues on the upper limit of say 2, 3, 4.... concurrent WU's?

Most likely 3. My ATI 6970 with 2GB ram would only run 3 efficiently. You can get more to run on the GPU but it will cause all the WU's to slow down which as we know is counter productive.

If you run 1 WU at a time you can kinda set a baseline for WU's. Then run 2. You'll notice both will take a bit longer to run. then try 3. Again a bit longer but still much faster than running 1 at a time. after 3 you'll start seeing a major slowdown

Edited to BOLD the <count>#</count> so they can be seen easily. :)

Thanks Skildude

Running two concurrent tasks the slow down is minimal at present and seems to be only a matter of seconds if that, from what I can see on the finished and validated results.

So next step is three.

Have noticed a huge leap in credits today as well. Added more than 10% to my Seti credit total in less than 18 hours. At this rate I will be moving very rapidly up the ranks for my join date. Currently lying at 43rd. Crikey. Is it really more than 10 years since I started this project on an old 400mhz machine with 64k Ram Lol.

Just read the app_info.xml file and noticed there are three lots of <count>#</count> in the file. Do you change all of them to read the same value or just the top one?

Here is the file from where the first count appears and where I changed it to run two WU's:

yes change all 3 since those point to different versions of the MB app

Just one last question if I may.

Couple of tag lines so you know where I am coming from.

For many years I have O/Ced my machines to wring out the extra credit point or two, reduce WU run times. All the projects I have done over the last 10 years have been CPU only.

Its only very recently that I have joined the GPU clan and am amazed at what they can do. Jumped up an enormous amount on one project from a rather measly 650k to over 5.5mill in less than a month.

How will O/Cing this rig affect the GPU and will it have any benefit in terms of reducing the CPU time used for the WU's and subsequently the GPU runtime?

Can clock this rig to about 4.2 giggles.

I think not much (maybe <1% effect on GPU runtime) (but I don't have a CUDA card)
But it will of course have effect on CPU tasks (you appear to have intentionally disabled the SETI CPU tasks?)

If you intend to OC your GTX 560 Ti - be careful, we had seen many users generate many errors with factory OCed GTX 560 Ti GPUs (too much MHz and/or too low Voltage)

Hi BilBg

The intention is to O/C the processors not the GPU card. Not going to tinker with the GPU clock settings at this time. If it goes bust I can't afford to replace. However, I do have spare quad core CPU's that will still run if the worst comes to the worst.

Yes I intentionally disabled the Seti CPU WU's so that I can continue to shrub WU for another project I am interested in.

Was wondering if by O/Cing the CPU's (6 of them on this rig, with 2 flying loose of any project) whether it would have any effect on the CPU part of the GPU WU's. If so what effect will it have?

Think you have answered this already with <1%.
