Up here in the Great White North only the little mosquitos carry a cow away before eating it. They do this so the big ones won't steal it.

Here is an interesting follow up to the earlier conversations about bears living in a human world. Bear71

The Great White North and mosquitoes are a well known phenomena, especially on the West Coast/fenland/peaty areas of Scotland.

The Cleggs get thick when disturbed.
It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues

You all need to move to California! We have mosquitoes, but because we are so dry here, the mosquitos are few in number, relative to places like Wisconsin. Eric and I dined alfresco last night and we didn't see a one. In Wisconsin, we would have had to have been sitting in that regional favorite... "a screen porch". I had never seen or heard of a "screen porch" before I met Eric, but after my first May vacation to the great state of Wisconsin, I totally understood why people build them!!!

I've never been out west, but I know the mosquito situation in upstate NY is awful if you find yourself outside of the cities... Pretty much everywhere rural here is farms or ponds/swamps.

Mosquitoes need a place with stagnant water, almost anything will do, an old tire, bucket, tub, anything that will catch and hold water.

Over here we aren't bothered that much by mosquitos, at least I ain't cause mosquitos don't like my blood too much. We have a humid climat though.

We do tend to get swarms of fruit flies here in summer. Oh of course and the ants, once they start nesting in your walls or garden it's a real pain to get rid of them. Had a wasps nest in the attic last year as well which cost £50 to get rid of.

Can I have a friendly bear please?

Here,s a Bundy bear Chris - They know how to have a good time.

Thank you Esme. This certainly clarifies why Vic declined my invitation to dance over in the Pun Thread last Friday night.

And here all weekend I thought it was because I have two left feet!

Well I didn't so when Chris said what He said, and I'm sure Chris meant no harm, but it was a bit creepy, may as well call Me gay and I'm not, just shy and disabled, but then what woman would want to date Me? I'm 6'1" tall and around 400lbs, soon to be 52 and yes I do have some grey in the beard.

Lol, I'm pretty sure Chris was just making a play on words and doesn't think you're gay. He isn't himself as far as I am aware and I couldn't care if either of you are or aren't.

I also don't think you are too old to get a girlfriend, but you would have to get out and about to meet someone.

Yeah I would, but I'm so short on income, that well going to bars isn't Me as I don't drink alcohol or smoke and churches don't hold any interest either, most seemed too stuffy/unfriendly even when I did try when I was a kid.

Vic, friends tease one another. That is a key point of friendship - license to playfully tease a bit.
