Hmmn, before being allowed to download it, it runs a compatibility check, which from mine, shows up a glitch...

Sneaky devils! Previously, the 2 Win 8 previews downloaded as .iso files. With this one, it downloads an upgrade assistant, then after running the compatibility test, it downloads the preview - unfortunately, I cannot find it anywhere & on checking, it's moved onto "getting files ready"

With this one, it downloads an upgrade assistant,And when you look closely at the download page for the upgrade assistant, you will also find a link to a full ISO file, just as before.... (not that it is more worth (worse?) downloading than the previous one) Ralf

I didn't have any issues in being able to download the ISO. I just went here http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/iso, selected the languages I needed, and then downloaded. To download the Server 2012 release you need to have, or make, a MS Live ID. However it can be downloaded from here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-US/evalcenter/hh670538.aspx?ocid=&wt.mc_id=TEC_108_1_33

Yep, I also ran both. Don't like them & for my own network, will wait for Win 9 if that is an improvemnet of course. If not, then it's going to be a pita.

If no metro ui then you have windows 7 minus the start button. I had win 8 and promptly removed it. I read you can the have metro not load and have the clasic desktop instead. Windows what trash just a cash grab by microsoft. Like xp and vista crap now win 7 and win 8 crap.

While not listed in the system requirements you need to have a CPU with NX bit support. Such as a Prescott P4 or a 64-bit capable AMD processor. Otherwise you will get a message after installation that says:

I'd hold on to that copy of Win 7 or move to Linux Mint. I think Win 7 will become a classic like XP. Nice OS -- stable -- fast. Too bad Microsoft seems to be catering to the touch-and-go crowd with their new OS.

I believe it's been mentioned many times before...unfortunately Microsoft by the release of Win 8 just confirms it...

I believe it's been mentioned many times before...unfortunately Microsoft by the release of Win 8 just confirms it... Wee are still on an even numbered version of the OS. Windows 95 v4.0 OK
Windows 98 v4.1 Good
Windows ME v4.9 Rubbish
Windows 2000 v5.0 Good
Windows XP x86 v5.1 Good
Windows XP x64 v5.2 Good
Windows Vista v6.0 Rubbish
Windows 7 v6.1 Good
Windows 8 v6.2 TBD As previous OS's listed the version number in their name I didn't bother to list them. ____________ SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours Join the BP6/VP6 User Group today!

I believe it's been mentioned many times before...unfortunately Microsoft by the release of Win 8 just confirms it... You missed the release of Windows NT which started the ball rolling (first fully 32-bit OS that all subsequent MS OS' are based on). It was released before Win 95 (Jul 93) so we are on an odd numbered release!

They should name it Millennium Edition 3.0. More appropriate.

I believe it's been mentioned many times before...unfortunately Microsoft by the release of Win 8 just confirms it... Do you mean Windows NT 3.1, 3.51, or 4.0? As I stated I didn't list the OS's which included the version number in the name. Such as Windows 3.11, 3.1, 3.0, 2.1, 2.0, 1.0 or any version of MS DOS. ____________ SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours Join the BP6/VP6 User Group today!

[quote] <edit> Windows NT was a major release like Windows XP & 7. It the 'father' of OS' that are on your list so why leave it out? Actually, it was THE most major release of any MS OS. The Initial NT release was simply known as NT even though it was numbered as NT version 3.1. I wouldn't leave it out of your list of MS OS'. It's kind of a landmark release for them. The stuff MS released before NT is a different kettle of fish, i.e., a different family of OS'. My point is that Sirius B's conclusion appears correct about Win 7 being an odd-numbered release...

No Aero anymore. Right direction. Unnecessarily unclear graphics-hog. They should bring out 2 versions if W8 is so dumbed-down: Windows Dumbed-Down Edition & Windows Proper Edition. Vista licence on this Dell because it's just what it came with, so I make the best of it, but 7 on the Ultima. As long as it's stable.
