While Congress made some moves in the right direction there are laws that are clearly racist in their impact, for example crack vs cocaine sentencing.

http://articles.cnn.com/2011-11-01/justice/justice_crack-cocaine-sentencing_1_powder-cocaine-fair-sentencing-act-crack-penalties?_s=PM:JUSTICE

http://www.drugpolicy.org/facts/drug-facts/cocaine-and-crack-facts

http://www.sentencingproject.org/CRACKREFORM/

Who are the typical users of cocaine? Same question for crack?

"Poor white me" indeed.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ...

Oh, the way to go is to couch one's opinions in politically correct terms and avoid saying what you really want to say.....I get it now.
Like not saying f.k you, you idiot, when you really wanna say, f.k you, you idiot..

Then the point has been lost.

F.k you, you idiot.

Ya know, Grand Torino had a lot of good points.

No Mark, the way is to take the raw emotion out of it, find and discuss the issue that causes the emotion. Just like any adult conversation. It can't be held at the playground level or all you get is name calling.

As did Mississippi Burning. Is anybody that disagrees with you going to be labeled "idiot" and "politically correct"?

I posted the following to the thread you started last night:

http://urbanlegends.about.com/od/dubiousquotes/a/michaelrichards.htm

Yet you left in the attribution to Michael Richards here.

There's also this, which includes the following:

snoozn@snopes wrote:
This reminds me of a Jon Stewart clip (I wish I could find it, but my youtube-fu is weak) about congressmen whining about how oppressed Christians are in this country. And Stewart comes back with something like "yes, imagine a time when a Christians could be the majority, perhaps even a 99% majority in our Congress. Imagine a time when a Christian could become president of the United States, perhaps even 43 Christians in a row." One could of course substitute "white" for "Christian" and make the same point.

This whole piece is so ridiculous it's hard to know where to start or if it's even worth it to respond.

How did I find the links? They are the top 2 returned by a Google search for "And then there are just Americans. You pass me on the street and sneer in my direction". These days vetting is fairly easy.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ...

I left the attribute in the open.
I told you I had not vetted it./
I also told you that although that was given, I agreed with the sentiment.

...and start discussing real issues, which mostly will be socioeconomic ones.

I would like to emphasize this statement because it is important. I think some racism stems from the belief that certain races are a certain way, when in fact this is just plain FALSE.
It's certain socioeconomic groups that are a "certain way". Mainly, the poor, in inner-city drug addicted and prostitute laden neighborhoods. There is no one race that fits into this classification, as if you spent a day in the worst neighborhoods you would find people from black to white to Hispanic to Asian.

The real issue, is socioeconomic. End of story.

LOL, which is the whole point. You did say you had not checked out the saying.

Yet, they jumped all over you like you had the plague. In effect calling you an idiot. Yet, when you call them out for being--"The Idiot" the backpedaling has yet to stop, so much so the right to free speech, in your case, hampered for their benefit. Same has been done in my case. ;-}

Just a different kind of racism, that of thought.

My post last night was:

Vetting is not hard:

Status: Falsely attributed to Michael Richards

Sorry Mark, if you sympathize with the statements in this email, you may very well be what I'd consider a racist.

I know you said you did not vet it. I don't know why you didn't.

Take identical twins. Separate at birth. One grows up in Harlem. One grows up in the Hamptons. Which one graduates Harvard? Which one gets a GED in Sing Sing?

DNA plays no role. Socioeconomics is the difference.

Socioeconomics is the difference.

You just shot down all those wonderful rags to riches stories. Now I'm disenchanted.

I never said who went where, you assumed it. Thus proving we all stereotype based on socioeconomics.

Rags to riches can happen, it just isn't the usual thing, so keep believing.

Yep. Poor people from the inner city, can grow up to do amazing things and/or become rich and or famous. It just takes a proper mindset, and requires that the tools be there to teach one that there is a way. It starts with the parents. But changes need to happen in society in general, as well.

What I don't understand is that you claim you want to have a discussion about racism, yet when people attempt to engage you, all you do is get belligerent, or you think you're being cute and witty.

Where's the discussion? Where's the point and counter-point? Or is this just another example of "I want to state my opinion and screw everyone that disagrees with me"?
