How about doing so without using offensive words?
How can you have a serious discussion about the subject without the words that define it?
Do using the words themselves define it? Or do the actually detract from a serious discussion of it? |

Why are the racial words so part and parcel to the point? I would think the idea is more important than trying to be edgy. |

You can make the point the same way the Gay Marriage thread was able to talk about gays without referring to them as f*gs or h**os or fl***rs. Those words are simply not needed but you can still have a discussion about the topic. |

Its not beating around the bush, its called being respectful towards those that find it incredibly offensive, or at the least its called being diplomatic. It could also be called self-control. |

I don't know what makes you say that.... I just gave you an example of how you can have the discussion without getting banned. Get creative about the discussion but don't use the offensive words. It seems like you want to do it your way and your way only, then get mad about it when you get told not to do it that way. |

The Gay marriage thread does demonstrate the difficulty some folks having expressive offensive thoughts/thinking without being offensive.
In some cases they might simply lack the language skills or intelligence for this to begin with, or perhaps when one strays over emotional hot button issues some component of otherwise competent writing/thinking skills suffers attrition.
Then there is the situation where some people have outlier opinions and view the world in concrete absolute terms. For them, rational discussion presents perhaps a challenge beyond them. |

And then there are some who really have a problem with gay marriage.
And their emotions take so control of them they have a problem saying what they have to say without revealing their emotions.
They are entitled to their emotions, but they are not entitled to dictate to others on how to live their lives.
Sorry, we're off topic. |

Thanks MS -- I think that thread (Gay Marriage) like threads on religion and race are all areas where the choice of language along with the ability to express ones *opinions* with care is important as is the capability of recognizing the distinction between fact and opinion. When folks mix fact and opinion up (and a discussion regarding racism certainly has that potential) then the discussion has a very high potential to get heated.
I think the idea behind discussions here is to seek light, not heat. |
