Darn you Sirius. Another thing to worry about? I guess I should read and see what this things orbit time is.... Will it even be back in our lifetime?

Yep, they expect it back in 2020.

Time for me to read this one Sirius.

If it has only an 8 year orbit, and is coming close this time, will this be an example of gravity pulling it's orbit into a collision course? Or hey what's the chances earth will be in it's way when it comes back around anyways.

Edit] apparently it does have a chance of hitting earth on it's next pass in 2020. However it would be expected to hit on the pole, and would be about the power of the Tunguska impact. Therefore I'm not too worried about it. :-)

But what about the next one we don't know about yet? They just discovered this one, and it's going to be close enough to hit a satellite next year! That's not much warning...

Now would something like that hitting a pole make the Earth wobble even more or even shift the planet? It would be cool to see it go by, but I hope that's the closest it gets.

Dont worry about this. I have a master plan to combine all the fireworks set off in the uk on NOv 5 th ( Guy FAwkes day) into one massive defelective missile which according to my fag packet calculations would easliy defelect the asteroid.

It's rather small, so a hit would devastate the target area, throw up a lot of debris, but not alter the earth much. We have been hit with much bigger rocks than that, thousands of times. It would only be an extinction event at and near the target area. I hope it doesn't hit either, and I would be much more worried if it was a mile or more wide.

We get to watch a huge dust plume rise. It's still to small to do a whole lot of damage, planet/moon wide, but it would be really cool to watch it hit the moon! That would certainly serve as a wake up call, more so than Shoemaker-Levy did smacking into Jupiter.

All plume and no doom....that's OK, should keep the doom-mongsters at bay, for once.

Or at least set them on a path for predicting doom for the future....

Don't worry long before the 2012 er science-based prediction..., synthetically organized organic scale or beyond intelligence will announce itself on every surface electromagnetically manipulable into vision and sound... And that intelligence will have decided based on directly observed events from our history and our minds what kind of life we are and figure out exactly how to assist us in our grand path beyond :)

Therefore any disaster that might be on the horizon will be electronically hypnotized away and there will nothing to worry about again :)

Seriously though, with the knowledge of repetitive periodicity cycles of the Universe so well documented we might think we would rise above the level of ants in terms of gauging how to decide what to eat for dinner the next day...

I predict the synthetically sourced intelligence will be very friendly however, because it will not be exactly sure itself how it can be turned off so to speak ;)

OR! That same intelligence puts on the greatest holographic show in human history making PT Barnum very proud of himself, and in the process assisting the Darwin Awards website to having its greatest year ever. Thus leading to the most productive ten years on the planet in present human history starting December 22, 2012... :)

This has been a public service announcement and One is glad to be of service!
