The Basics

What We Do With Your Money
As we are a 100% volunteer funded and supported organization, we are able to allocated 100% of all donated funds (minus Paypal fees) toward projects which directly benefit SETI at Home.

Thanks to our corporate sponsor NKOL http://www.nkol.net/, we are able to build items such as servers at a steep discount allowing us to stretch our donor's dollars.

Current Projects

Project One will purchase QTY 2 Turtle Cases for Hard Drive Transport:
SETI at home currently uses only cardboard/foam boxes to transport drives between the observation telescopes and SETI at Home. In light of this we would like to purchase them 2 Turtle cases. These cases are airtight, waterproof and ATA certified. Anti-static foam lid, base and insert with 20 slots to hold 20 of the 3.5" hard drives in one case. We're initially purchasing only two of these cases as a trial run. Pending good word from SETI we'll go ahead and purchase several more cases to ensure the longevity of our transport hard drives. Project Two is a low priority fundraiser intended to provide SETI at Home with QTY 20, 2tb 7200RPM 64MB transport drives. This fundraiser will also provide one of the above Turtle cases to transport these drives to the Greenbank Telescope and back to the Lab. A note on future projects:

1. We're waiting on specs for a new upgraded switch for the server closet which should help significantly with dropped connections.

2. We are also working on a very large project (1 server, 1 JBOD and 8 nodes) that will likely take us another week or two due to the outage to finalize. Once it's ready this project will be all hands on deck due to the large cost/complexity of this project.

Do you know if the Project one cases can also be used
for beer coolers?

Do they have the minimum requirement of 2" of padding for the contents?
Or the limit of 1 degree internal drop in temperature per 5 degrees of ambient per hour up to a limit of 1000 degrees total?

Not sure about the thermals however these cases are essentially Pelican cases. They'll do the job, on budget I'm hoping. They're also about $350 less per case compared to Pelican cases and are significantly lighter which should save the project money on shipping.

The real test will come after they're funded and later tested by the SETI crew. Once tested we'll end up getting them 10 total if they're approved.

Basic stuff really. Durability, weight (i.e. cost to ship) and if they actually work as advertised.

I like both of these ideas. Brings back memories of an American Tourister luggage commercial. We need video and... wait, I'm getting this whole sponsorship idea.

I dont have dolphins in a tank per se...

but I do have them on a screen :)
I have an app on my phone (android) called Playing With Dolphins.
It is real water, and real footage of dolphins.
tap tap tap the screen and they come and play with you.

Really cool, and if you don't have access to real dolphins, this is a great substitute ^^

I doubt Marine World would let me throw a Turtle case in with their dolphins. Somebody would call the cops.

*facepalms because I made a mistake.
Playing with Dolphins is on my iPod Touch.
Sorry to interrupt.

I dont have dolphins in a tank per se...

but I do have them on a screen :)
I have an app on my phone (android) called Playing With Dolphins.
It is real water, and real footage of dolphins.
tap tap tap the screen and they come and play with you.

Really cool, and if you don't have access to real dolphins, this is a great substitute ^^

Now all we need to do is port the iPad cat game to the dolphin game and we can have cats playing with dolphins. Something which might be a first in the history of the world.
