	They just fixed the "message" system for seti@home. We were warned we would get some old messages. Just disregard it. Next time the message will show up when they send one. Yes, I read that in the message immediately preceding mine, but not until after I had already sent my message, of course. :-0 ____________

	Point is there was about 5 hours notice. A full 5 hours? Sorry, but you've got to be kidding. You should probably start to realize that people have a daytime job or rather playing with the kids than checking every few hours if there "possibly" is an outage announced on short notice. As mentioned by others, the point is that there is (was?) no way to get official notice about any outage when you notice hours into the outage that there is no communication with the project in your BOINC client(s). There should be rather some serious thoughts about separating the database/science part of the project from the website/forum. Website/forum down isn't a big deal and when this happens to the database/science part, everyone has a place to check out why. Most people would probably call this common sense (I know, a rare commodity these days)... Ralf 5 hours is not nearly enough. I normally catch up with all things Boinc when I'm at work (while I'm waiting for something else to happen on another computer). In the case of last week's "planned" outage, it came on the heels of a holiday (when I didn't work). Furthermore, I didn't go to work on Tuesday because I had business to attend to related to my grandmother dying. So when I tried to see my account and catch up on several days' worth of forum postings on Wednesday and found that the site had disappeared again, I thought "now what???" But I didn't panic. I went to the source where I finally found information about the previous unplanned outage, Campus' web site under IT. They had *nothing* about it. They did better during the unplanned outage. I racked my brain and finally came up with the URL to Lunatics, then went through a lengthy search of the forums to finally find out what was going on. (May I suggest to the guys there that when something like this happens, instead of adding onto a years-old thread, they start a new one? I was looking for something that had started in the last day or two.) I simply agree that Campus IT should have redirected, rerouted, or in some other way found a way to inform people trying to reach setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu or setihome.berkeley.edu that there was a known issue, a bit about what it was, and an ETA (if any) to it being resolved.
