Sea Shepherds fight in germany: http://www.youtube.com/user/MySeaShepherdDE/videos

Thanks for that.

A direct link to the latest 'news video' is:

YouTube: Paul Watson // 05.06.2012

In English with German subtitles.

In brief: An amazing story, and all the more amazing for the involvement of Germany. Is there still a secret pact between Germany and Japan from World War II? For my view, the circumstances are unbelievable unless there is instead more recent to WWII, and more simply, some blatant corruption going on.

All on our only planet,

Since japs and germs had former war time military ties they should inherit special bonds whatever the regime changes.

This even make sense that eu is pretty much under german pressure nowadays so environmental protection is so lose even in iceland they still slaughter whales and dolphines. I am guessing iceland is eu member.

Northern europe is mostly considered as germanic aryan race something according to some popular views so the big aryan hand supports whale hunting inside eu territory.

The legal saga continues:

Something Fishy Continues in Costa Rica and Germany

... informed of a decision that gives irrefutable evidence that the case against Captain Paul Watson is political.

... Our Costa Rican lawyer presented two excellent motions before the court and even a constitutional motion. All these proposals were denied with very weak justification.

Our latest motion was denied Friday. In this document we have provided a very clear argument that Captain Watson is being charged with a crime that does not even exist in Costa Rican law. ...

... The case has gone from strange to absurd...

... Let me get this clear: Captain Watson has to show up in Costa Rica to be placed in jail awaiting his trial to defend himself against a crime that does not even exist in Costa Rican law?...

... The whole thing is absurd and unnecessary, let alone unprecedented.

The case is being stalled and the courts are refusing to listen to our argument, even though it should be crystal clear to them. What is crystal clear to us, is that this has never been about justice, this has always been political, a way to shut us down, a way to keep us busy in the courts, a way to raise our legal expenses and therefore lower our campaign funds.

This tactic doesn’t really seem to work, quite the opposite actually. What has happened since Captain Watson’s arrest is growing worldwide support for our cause, the purchase of another vessel for our fleet (and how ironic is its origin), Captain Watson joining our fleet in time to lead the campaign, and just this Friday I received the news that Sea Shepherd officially has been inscribed as an NGO in Costa Rica.

It is more than clear that we have the support of people around the world, but at the same time it is clear that governments are not listening to their own people. Then again, what is new?

Very strange indeed.

Strange enough to suggest (il)legal corruption?...

Sea Shepherd are in need of funds to fuel their boats to gain a zero kill for the Japanese whalers this 2012/2013. See: $9 Challenge: OZT Fundraising Update and Continuing Appeal

And... The Japanese authorities and corruption are grounding more than just Captain Paul Watson:

Be a Voice for the Dolphins

Stand against the Japanese government’s crimes and transgressions against our oceans

It should come as no shock that the government of Japan is afraid of the truth. Few, if any, of the world’s governments would be found to be completely open to the truth, or to sharing it, but Japan’s contempt for truth is in a league of its own. ...

... some Japanese citizens are beginning to see through the media censorship and hype, particularly in the aftermath of the Fukushima disaster.

The lies told by the Japanese government about the extent of radiation leaks are now evident to the people of Japan as well as the rest of the world. ...

... Japanese ships have been violating the moratorium on commercial whaling for years and are currently in violation of an Australian court order to cease killing whales in the Antarctic Whale Sanctuary. The biggest lie of all, of course, is Japan’s assertion that their whale killing is research. ...

... governments are being manipulated by Japan as well. Case in point, the government of Costa Rica, which submitted a warrant for the arrest of Captain Watson in Germany this past year. Based on partial truths and lies, coaxed from a prisoner, Japan issued its own warrants for the Captain and used those to attempt to manipulate Germany into extraditing Captain Watson to Japan. ...

Disdain for the truth is also apparent in Taiji, where we see the pathetic attempts of marine mammal trainers and butchers to hide behind tarps and police lines. We all know what happens behind those tarps and lines. We see a pod of dolphins ruthlessly driven into the Cove and few are ever seen alive again. ...

... Veteran Cove Guardians are now being denied admittance into the country of Japan. Of course a nation has the right to control its borders, but keeping out individuals who have committed no crimes and whose only “transgression” is the witness and documentation of the truth of Taiji’s dirty little secret is shameful. ...

... For every Cove Guardian veteran they deny entry, let’s place another five Cove Guardians on the ground! ...

A very bad example of Japan... And all for the painful profit of just for a very few and in just one group and in just one coastal town.

Disgusted,
Martin

As our world becomes more civilized, a reminder why hunting mammals to a cruel and painful death is dying out:

Dolphin rescue caught on underwater camera

... the dolphin seemed to "communicate" with the diver to ask for help. ...

Well, if one of thier ships really did run aground, I've got to wonder what took it so long.
As I've watched the TV shows, I've been appauled at the lack of seamanship and basic skills.
It's like watching the thre stooges three fold.

I do appreciate their selfless battle to protect the whales.

I'm convinced that Dolphins and whales are indeed highly intellegent mammals and should be protected at all costs.

Regarding, "hunting mammals to a cruel and painful death is dying out".
Cows, Goats, Sheep, and Hogs are mammals too.
If they "die out", we do too.

Ah... The wonders of the portrayal by 'reality TV'. :-)

Behind the raw volunteers, there's some very expert seamanship. I'm sure the TV series will camp-up the "dirty dozen" "learning the ropes" fun angles!

As mentioned elsewhere, at least in the UK anyone attacking farm animals in the way that whales are slaughtered would themselves be strung up for grotesque cruelty.

As for the 'run aground' title: See the earlier messages on this thread. Or jump in at Post 1240436 for the summary for once the fog had lifted.

So how deep does the Japanese corruption run? Echos from a WWII pact??

An interesting two petitions to the USA Whitehouse:

Take strong action to stop the Japanese from killing whales in the Southern Ocean Antarctic Whale Sanctuary

We petition the Obama Administration to:

Take strong action to stop the Japanese from killing whales in the Southern Ocean Antarctic Whale Sanctuary.

The President must take swift and decisive action against Japan's illegal whaling.

Under the Pelly Amendment and the Packwood-Magnuson Amendment, the President has the power to apply economic sanctions against Japan for its continued whale slaughter in the Antarctic Whale Sanctuary. The United States asserts that it resolutely opposes whale hunting by Japan, but does little to actually bring a halt to the practice. ...

Provide Safe Haven to Captain Paul Watson, Founder of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society

We petition the Obama Administration to:

Provide Safe Haven to Captain Paul Watson, Founder of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.

We request the U.S. not extradite U.S citizen Paul F. Watson.

There are two active Interpol Red Notices issued against Captain Watson at the request of Costa Rica and Japan. Underlying these notices are non-lethal acts in defense of marine life suffering from illegal shark fishing and whaling operations. The warrants are politically motivated.

Captain Watson is a world-renowned and highly respected leader in environmental issues. In 1999, he was awarded President George H.W. Bush’s "Daily Points of Light" Award and in 2000, he was named one of Time Magazine’s “Top 20 Environmental Heroes of the 20th Century.” In 2012, he became only the second person ever to be honored with the Jules Verne Award for environmentalists and adventurers. Captain Watson is a national treasure.

With the new increased threshold for gaining a response, lots more support needed yet. This is ALL our planet and our only oceans... All for just a few clicks? It's your planet too...

Adding to the legal skirmishes for where Japan's legal system appears to have suspiciously failed:

Sea Shepherd sues Japanese institute company in sinking of Ady Gil

... Sea Shepherd’s lawsuit, filed Thursday in Oregon’s U.S. District Court, seeks $3 million from the institute and Kyodo Senpaku Kaisha LTD to pay for the damaged Ady Gil, which sank after its sleek nose section was sheared off in a harrowing collision with the Japanese security ship Shonan Maru No. 2. ...

Adding to the legal skirmishes...

Sea Shepherd takes battle to top US court

... Environmental lawyer Robert F Kennedy Jr, the son and namesake of the slain political icon, urged the United States to show support for the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and its fugitive founder Paul Watson.

"It's a mission that only they are capable of accomplishing and that is absolutely vital to the enforcement of international agreements on the high seas which otherwise go unenforced," Kennedy told reporters on Monday.

The International Whaling Commission has designated a whale sanctuary in the Southern Ocean. Japan nonetheless kills whales in the area through a loophole in a 1986 moratorium on commercial whaling that allows lethal research.

Kennedy called Japan's government-supported Institute for Cetacean Research, which runs the whaling program and sued Sea Shepherd, "a pirate organisation masquerading as a scientific research group".

In an application to the Supreme Court filed on Friday, Sea Shepherd and Watson said the lower court "acted rashly" and voiced concern over the order's "extraordinarily long reach" to areas outside US jurisdiction. ...

In somewhat dryer but more explicit language:

Courthouse News Service

Japan's Institute of Cetacean Research, a cover for the illegal slaughter of whales, rammed environmentalists' charter boat, cutting it in two, then attacked them with water cannons, the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society claims in court.

Sea Shepherd sued The Institute of Cetacean Research and Kyodo Senpaku Kaisha, in Federal Court. ...

And so...

No surprise that the fatuous extradition 'request' by Costa Rica was never backed up and never followed through. So that looks to be clearly a fraudulent ruse to have Germany play Japanese stooge to hold Captain Watson without charge for a few months.

And now, one year onwards:

An Anniversary to Remember

Hard to believe it has been one year, as of today, that our esteemed Founder, Captain Paul Watson, was arrested in Frankfurt, Germany on politically motivated, 10-year-old charges stemming from an incident in which he tried to intervene, at the Government's request to stop Costa Rican shark poachers. No one was hurt, no property was damaged, and the case was dismissed by local authorities. In fact, the entire ordeal was documented in the 2007 film, “Sharkwater.”

However, Japan, who has thrown $30 million dollars of taxpayer and Tsunami Relief Funds into stopping Sea Shepherd at all costs, later convinced Costa Rica to re-open the charges, which led to his arrest. ...

... We continue to fight for his freedom [expensively] within the legal system. However, no matter what happens, his legacy — Sea Shepherd Conservation Society — lives on...

How deep runs the corruption?
