I'd join in with a pitchfork but before Jason developed fixes specifically for my dual 560ti rig, I was producing invalids/errors like it was my job.

I just wish the folks who want to stay anonymous would set up a throwaway email account with a bouncer so if their rig was throwing out junk at least someone could still get in touch with them.

I'm sure that few people know those "anonymous" hosts being a side effect of hiding their computers.

To me it looks like http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=3378825 has a bit of a problem. About 11,000 WUs about to be invalid is my guess.

It's particularly galling when the owner is a sufficiently active reader of the current situation to install an optimised Astropulse v6 application as early as 3rd. April (task 2382877138) - albeit with a pretty bizarre set of command line parameters - but not sufficiently involved/interested to check that their handiwork actually works.

...the difference being of course that you did something about it. What I can never fathom is why these people 'participate' in endeavors such as this. They obviously like the idea of 'participating' - even apparently to the extent of installing optimised apps, but then they do not appear to have a modicum of interest with regards to the rubbish they are producing. Is it a language thing? or just an ego thing - perhaps the latter.

Sad really, for the project as a whole and for those of us who try our absolute upmost to produce quality output at every level. I feel bad about 1 non -12 error....., but 11,000 invalids? - I'd be swinging in the breeze!!!!

That's what we call "just smart enough to screw things up"

Or as ^ said, perhaps there are some truly screwed up people out there purposely trying to do this kind of thing.. Scary. Perhaps the whole method of handing out work needs to be re-though, as has been mentioned. I like the +1 -1 system mentioned earlier. Produce enough garbage and eventually you'll get nothing.

There are people in this world, believe it or not, some with a mission from their God or leader even, who would do their outmost to take part in a project like this, and the only reason is to produce as much invalid data as possible, to destroy the science of the project.

There are tons of religious fundementalists out there, who does not want to find any other sentient being in the entire Universe, because their interpretation of their belief system, is that God only created this planet with life. In the way they interpet the Bible, or the Qur'an, anything or anyone who wants to go against that "truth", is an enemy and he and his "projects" must be destroyed.

So, don't be surprised if there actually are anonymous active hosts with only only purpose, and that is to produce as many invalid/inconclusive/erroneous tasks as possible. If enough of those hosts exists, and their overflows or whatever get matched up, they will enter invalid data into the science database.

I've never thought of it that way. Good point.

Host 3378825 is only showing 9 errors, and has a RAC around 12000. Without checking the task list the user would likely not even be aware the host has many invalid results. BOINC doesn't even try to provide any feedback on quality other than hoping the user will look at the statistics tab of BOINC Manager and be able to notice they're not growing as fast as they should be. I put at least half the blame on that.

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=5851682 looks like another Anonymous with an issue. Even the valid WUs struggled to get started.

I feel this system should be blocked.

I think we know that one:

Probably, but it should be blocked 'till the issue is resolved.

I sure hope someone takes action and shuts those folks off.
This is egregious behavior whether intentional or not.
