I upgraded to Catalyst 12.4 today and started having problems with the Lunatics Enhanced 6.10 (ati13ati) app. I have 2 tasks that are hung-up at the 0.017% complete mark on Computer 3049387. I also got an error message saying the display has stopped responding and Windows has recovered/restarted the program. Seems to be a Lunatics problem - since the GPU is working OK on a Collatz task. Anyone else having this problem? |

Not entirely the same problem as yours but a problem surfaced shortly after the Catalyst 12.4 upgrade. For starters, I'm running an I5 2400. All four Cores running @ 100%. Here are the oddities post Catalyst 12.4 upgrade. 1. BOINC is only requesting new tasks for CPU and I'm on my last AP. The rest are CPU WU's. 2. On occasion, the GPU would run on zero load. I know this is a known bug and the fix is to suspend/resume work, but it is more evident now. 3. If all 4 CPU Cores are crunching + 1 GPU supposedly crunching an AP, the usage goes to ZERO and becomes slow as dirt. Fix: Modify app_info and dedicate a FULL Core on the AP. I did this on the x86 and 64 configs(See below) <avg_ncpus>1</avg_ncpus> <max_ncpus>1</max_ncpus> 4. With all 4 CPU Cores Crunching + 1 GPU MultiBeam Task also unloads the GPU. Fix: Run at least two instances to load work the GPU. Note: Just by choice, I never had to do this before <cmdline>-period_iterations_num 20 -instances_per_device 2</cmdline> -<coproc> <type>ATI</type> <count>.5</count> Stick - Have you tried suspending work > shutdown BOINC > restart BOINC > resume work? Before I forget to mention, I have also attempted to roll back my Cat install only to find myself going through all this pain. I never had to with my previous NVIDIA card BUT I made this choice as I noticed that RADEON cards consume less electricity. |

Stick - Have you tried suspending work > shutdown BOINC > restart BOINC > resume work? Yes (and a few other variations of restarting as well). The tasks just restart at zero and then stop again at 0.017%. When that happens, the screen goes dark momentarily and then the error message regarding the display driver not responding and then recovering crops up. BTW: The Collatz task I mentioned earlier finished successfully and the GPU is now running a PrimeGrid task. Also, I forgot to mention earlier that I am running BOINC 7.0.25. Before I forget to mention, I have also attempted to roll back my Cat install only to find myself going through all this pain. I never had to with my previous NVIDIA card BUT I made this choice as I noticed that RADEON cards consume less electricity. This reminds me - I have also had problems with previous Catalyst upgrades. Both 12.2 and 12.3 immediately caused Windows to crash on my system (blue screens) - forcing me to revert to 12.1 (via System Restore). |

You say you upgraded to 12.4 Did you 1) Uninstall all your ATI drivers using the ATI express uninstall? 2) then use driver sweep to get the rest of the drivers that the uninstaller missed? 3)restart the computer? 4) then install the 12.4 drivers? these steps must be followed to insure the correct removal and installation of the new drivers and for the Lunatics apps to process using the correct drivers In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. You say you upgraded to 12.4 I just used the Software Update option in the AMD VISION Engine Control Center program. It downloaded the Catalyst 12.4 installer and I ran it using the Express install option. The installer ran to completion without any problems. And, once again, I am only having problems with the Lunatics app. Collatz and PrimeGrid are running OK. EDIT: I have never updated drivers using the process you described and I guess the idea of doing steps 1, 2 and 3 (and then not having any drivers in the system) makes me a little uncomfortable. |

You need to uninstall old drivers first. Raistmers apps are OpenCL and has nothing similar with Collatz and primegrid. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

You need to uninstall old drivers first. The V0.40 installer from LUNATICs, uses CUDA for MB and OpenCL for AstroPulse work. As you check your GPU's with GPUz, f.i., you'll notice, they work with CUDA(FERMI), but those GPU's are capable of doing OpenCL, as well. The added flavor for CPU is SSE3 and AVX. ON AMD ATI GPU's (5870s), MB work gives best performance with period_iterations = 3 With AstroPulse, I use Unroll=15 and ffa_data is 15360 and data_chunk= 5120, still waiting till it finishes MW. Also doing 1 AstroPulse per ATI 5870GPU. I upped these [i]Data_chunks & fetch from 2048 and 1024 (1:2) to the value mentioned above, which is 1:3 and UNROLL=15. Sofar I've a few AstroPulse WU's, done by two ATI 5870's GPUs. ATI + I7-2600 host. |

Stick - You just solidified my theory and after hours of banging my head on the wall. I will revert to 12.1 or even earlier this evening as time allows. I rolled back to 12.3 last night to no avail. Thank you for this bit of info btw! I'll give it a try and add some useful info to this post to share with my fellow crunchers. I am inclined to say the issue is not with Lunatics (been running on both NVIDIA and ATI as I tested both in the last month nor BOINC 7.025 but on the new Catalyst drivers. Anyone, feel free to correct my assumption on this. The more accurate info I could get, the better as I don't plan on wasting my time tinkering with different combinations. It's growing pains I guess with the ATI world unfortunately... |

Stick - if you wish to uninstall and reinstall Catalyst in a very clean way so you can switch to other versions, follow these instructions. http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/195195-fix-catalyst-control-center-ccc-will-not-open-install.html In addition, per Skildude's suggestion, install and run driversweep while you are in SAFEMODE: http://phyxion.net/item/driver-sweeper.html |

Well, I just finished the "clean install" procedure that Skildude suggested but it didn't help. Same results as before, tasks still hanging-up at 0.017% and still getting the driver not responding/recovering message. I think I agree with justchill3n's assessment regarding growing pains. Problem may be in the new Catalyst version and/or its interaction with the Lunatics app. In either case, as justchill3n said, I will also quit banging my head against the wall and revert back to Cat 12.1 later today. |

Maybe something is wrong with the AMD installer. I thought my problems were related to uninstalling the old SDK package somewhere in between. I had to extract and install manually the openCL.dll when I went to 12.3 You get it when you right klick on the installer package and choose 'open with' and then 7z or whatever you use for compressing / extracting files. Here the path inside the file: 12-3_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc.exe\$_OUTDIR\Packages\Apps\OpenCL64\ Hope this helps Christoph |

I just remembered that I had to reinstall the AMD APP SDK found here which installs and may fix any OpenCL related issues you are having. By default, the cards run on OpenCL 1.1 but the AMD developer site released OpenCL 1.2 beta Install the AMD APP SDK and choose your flavor, found here: http://developer.amd.com/sdks/AMDAPPSDK/downloads/Pages/default.aspx |

I will add that I am running 12.4 on one of my systems, and its working fine. I even believe I'm seeing a little bit faster crunching times than with 12.3. |

Install the AMD APP SDK and choose your flavor, found here: Tried this (using the OpenCL 1.1 option) but there was no change. (And if I understood Christoph correctly, his suggestion was to do basically the same thing.) Given Karsten's report, I am beginning to wonder if there might be a Catalyst problem specific to my hardware type. |

Here's a question we should have asked and I will now since I noticed what your GPU numbers are. Is this a laptop GPU? In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

Good point there. He is running APU E240. I imagine it has to do with the hardware in general. Its no discrete GPU so you need to find drivers wich works best i fear. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

that GPU only has 384 MB available and I'm betting that shared. I have an HP laptop that has a 512Mb GPU and it is very slow. I wouldn't expect much out of your laptop GPU though you shouldn't be restarting drivers etc. Have you ran GPUz to see if it is OpenCL and which version of OpenCL it is compatible with. I'll check to see what ATI driver version my laptop is running. I've not updated it since it was working fine out of the box. In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. He already finnished MB units so its only a driver issue. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |
