Hi!

I installed BOINC 7.0.25, but it doesn't start up. I tried to install BOINC 6.13.1, but that doesn't work anymore either. What gives?

I am using 64-bit Windows 7 Professional.

Thanks, but it is still not working...

Why did they introduce a broken version of stable BOINC in the first place?

With 7.x and up you cannot install in protected mode.

Completely uninstall BOINC and then re-install without protected mode checked.

See if you have the latest ATI (Cat.12.4)/ nVidia drivers (>275.33!) and the
right, x86 or x64 version.

Then install BOINC 7.0.25 (x86 or x64) and if you want to speed processing up,
use 0.40 LUNATICs installer, 32 or 64bit's.

I also noticed a speed up, if not using an core/thread for the GPU's!
(Works with MW?!)

Using the cat. 12.4 installer works OK, no restarts or crashes, much better GPU
load and progress.

I've upgraded all hosts, only my T2400 (L.T.) not yet, to BOINC 7.0.25, LUNATICs
0.40 Installer.

Now, they all work OK.

Using a period_iteration of 3, load on both ATI 5870 GPU's are 98% (GPU 0)
and 96% (GPU 1). And do 2 MB WU's per GPU.
Sometimes the driver crashes, and quickly recovers, sometimes with no load, a
restart of BOINC (7.0.25), is necessary.

I see that no one asked, but what kind of problem did you have with it? What message did you get when 7.0.25 tried to start? "It doesn't start up" is quite a short description of a problem. I can think of 102 different causes, off the top of my head and would like to narrow it down, some.

I have been running 7.0.25 and there is no problems at all with any issues.
If you try to install in protected mode forget it.
take it out and re-install.

Watch it going back to the 6 series from 7 as the app_info will be gone.
Back everything up before you do it

Thanks, but I didn't find any threads related to BOINC 7 startup problems there.

nVidia 301.24. It should be the correct version for 64-bit Windows 7.

Nothing shows up after the installation completes. I cannot start BOINC Manager. I cannot see BOINC Manager anywhere. CPU load is almost 0%, so apparently BOINC is not running anything...

I deleted the files client_state.xml and client_state_prev.xml from C:\ProgramData\BOINC and installed BOINC 6, but it doesn't work. I still cannot see BOINC Manager...

Are there BOINC programme & Data folders?
Are there files in there?
If you double click on boincmgr.exe what happens?
If you start Task Manager & look at the Processes tab, are there any boinc* there?

Are there BOINC programme & Data folders?

I can found these folders:
C:\Program Files\BOINC
C:\ProgramData\BOINC

Are there files in there?

Both of those folders are filled with files and subfolders.

If you double click on boincmgr.exe what happens?

When I double click C:\Program Files\BOINC\boincmgr.exe nothing happens. The mouse cursor has that "loading" animation for five seconds and then it becomes the normal mouse cursor again. I can't see BOINC Manager anywhere...

If you start Task Manager & look at the Processes tab, are there any boinc* there?

boinctray.exe

Still, I cannot see the small BOINC Manager icon on the Taskbar.

Nothing is crunching because CPU Load is practically 0%.

Are you running any AntiVirus or AntiMalware software?
If so, try shutting them down, then try running BOINC again.

Most AV programs have an option to exclude executables, so exclude all
BOINC's Data Executables, like AK_v2b_xxx.exe etc..
And BOINC's executables, as well.
