OK I have the latest news for you. They have now found tumours in both shoulders and will be treating them with radiotherapy. But on a better note, the kidneys appear to be functioning alright on their own now, and he won't need to go to another hospital, or need permanent dialysis, but they may move him to the local renal ward to keep an eye on things for the time being. John remains in very good spirits and continues to thank you all for your kind wishes. On the behalf of his friends here at Seti, and other forums, I sent Sheila a bouquet of flowers through Interflora, and she was thrilled with them and they really cheered her up. The family continues to rally round. I'll ring Sheila next week for an update. |

The words "John Clark" and "good spirits" are synonymous, but not always in that particular order. Glad to hear he's doing OK, and tell him we are coping in his enforced absence, and want him back fit and healthy. I'll ring up later on today and see how things are going. The arrangement is that I will be contacted if there is any major change, so I guess no news is good news. |

Just spoken to Sheila tonight, and as a result of a number of X-rays they are going to do some chemotherapy as well. The doctors say the original shoulder fracture was a "lucky break" enabling the diagnosis. The kidneys continue to function fine. His children are visiting this w/e and his brother is back up on the 21st. The good bit of news is that he has a new grand daughter named Effie Shirley Clarke, and John is over the moon about that. He remains in good spirits but is getting a bit bored! I have asked Sheila to find out if the ward he is in has wifi, and if so whether if he is allowed, he feels up to using a laptop. John doesn't have one but between all his friends in the UK we should be able to rustle one up on loan. Finally I have received a card from Jim S which I will pass on up to John. |

Great news guys!!! John managed to get to a phone and I had a 1/2 hour chat with him :yippee :yippee :yippee He is doing well, and has now been transferred to a bed in the chemo ward, and the treatment is about to begin. He sounded really upbeat and says that he feels good. It was lovely to speak to him. He gives his grateful thanks for all the kind words and messages, and I'm going to go up and see him some time in the next 10 days. The unit beside his bed apparently has wifi access, so I am trying to negotiate the loan of a laptop which John says he would be very grateful for. He was tickled pink at Staceys forthcoming mum-ship and sends his best regards :wave Chris |

And please do keep John and Sheila in your thoughts and prayers. Depending on it's nature, chemo can be very rough stuff, and can drain one's energy and spirit. So don't be too surprised if John isn't exactly doing jumping jacks as his treatment progresses. Speaking as another who has a loved one going through it. I know there are others here who understand what I am saying as well. "The secret o' life is enjoying the passage of time." 1977, James Taylor "With cats." 2018, kittyman ![]() |
