Not what I wanted to hear when I came back from my road trip.
Thanks to Chris & Sirius B. for the updates. Praying for a full recovery.

I have several shipmates & shipmates' wives on dialysis - it puts a serious crimp in one's lifestyle, but it is better than the alternative. I also lost a shipmate over the weekend, due to kidney failure on top of several other health issues. Glad Sir John is stable and doing better.

@Vic: nermal - who let him in here?
Normal - this lot? roflmao.

Message 1223811 - Posted: 27 Apr 2012, 2:20:22 UTC - in response to Message 1223609.

Sheila went to see John today and although still quite ill, he is better than he was and has been sitting in a chair by the bed. They are talking of transferring him to a specialist renal unit at Leicester to assess what future treatment he needs. Sheila will see him next on Saturday. All your good wishes have been passed on.

TY Chris for letting us know.

Sheila has just rung me with an update.

The good news is he continues to be on and off dialysis as necessary, but the periods in between are getting longer, and that bodes well for the future. He remains in the hospital for the time being but they are transferring him to the Haemotaology Unit there so they can keep a closer eye on his blood condition.

But on a positive note, he is eating well & peeing well, which is always a good sign :-)) and he is in fine spirits, and is very touched by everyones concern for him, and both John & Sheila are very gratefull for all your kind messages of support. I'll report back on Monday night.

OK folks I have just got off the phone to Sheila, and the news continues to be good.

He is off dialysis at the moment and they are hopeful that given time the kidneys will be able to function for themselves. Given his age, any treatment is likely to be longer than for someone younger, but that is only to be expected. He is under the care of a Professor and has been seen by a dietician. Sheila has been given a list of foods containing high potassium like bananas, which he mustn't have.

Apparently he is behaving just like normal and you would think he was just in there for a common cold, he even argued with Sheila! He says he will be driving himself home when they let him out!

Sheila will be seeing him next on Friday, and I'll report back to you then.
