One of my systems - http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=6124953 - has crashed and won't boot because of an unknown virus. The hard drive in this system, an HP Probook, was encrypted with McAfee Endpoint Encryption and fails to boot with message "Fatal Error 0xEE020006 Getting disk info". I've been trying to do a support chat with HP for over an hour but they still haven't responded. I believe in the end that I'll need to re-image the system but I'm holding hope that HP will have some magic that can be applied.

There were 43 "In Progress" tasks at the time of failure ... Sincerest apologies to those affected.

Don't worry about it. It's happened to the best of us.

Sure it's not a HD failure rather than an 'unknown virus'?

Mark, I'm sure it was a virus that attempted to install, but I'm not sure how far it got ... I was using Google to research resetting a forgotten windows password and wandered into dangerous territory. AV alerted to a couple of trojan droppers, told it to quarantine. Got several UAC requests (all denied), more AV alerts (quarantine), then a "Flash Player" install (aborted) followed by about a hundred "write failed" windows, at which point I powered off. Took all of 20-30 seconds :-(

Sirius, Thanks for the link ... I opted for the System Recovery. I did see some info on Mcafee's site about using a BartPE disk along with EETech to brute force decrypt, but it looked pretty complicated. Most of my personal data is on a network drive, so the data loss will be minimal ... It's royal pain to reinstall everything, but I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable with the system even if I could get it "clean".

Anyone know if there's a way to re-register a machine with Boinc/Seti?
Or, if not, a way to clear orphaned WU's?

Thanks,
Mark

The merge system function. Don't know the best way to do this as I have (Knock on wood) never had to use it. I'm sure someone will be by shortly with the best way to do this. I know if you do it right the project will resend all your orphaned WU from before your crash. So Good luck and best wishes

Thanks B-Man, looks like the merge worked. All WU's that were assigned to the old system ID are now assigned to the new system and are being resent.
