Hang on, not so fast, Sirius...the French don't hate us for they consider us
as, "our most dear enemies"....a lot of difference in that...?

No problem, I took precautions just in case so I have zero debt and so no worries.

I understand, we are debt free as well. But there is the follow on, when you start in effect, promoting suffering, there is the risk that those who are suffering are not without available responses which just might 'spread the wealth' of suffering even to those without debt.

By the way, that appears the same view that in the US is held by the TeaPublican party (except it turns out that a LARGE proportion of the Teapublican party partisans would in fact encounter severe personal financial stress if the policies they seem to want are deployed across the board. (The folks that chant 'keep the government hands off of my Medicare' represent a curious suspension of political disbelief.

Barry...
I actually try to promote what I consider to be the appropriate government fiscal
response to this current financial crisis. The suffering I don't promote for I
just highlight it as an unfortunate bi-product If the government was to take
the necessary action to curb our over-spending. The later they take action the
more sufferers there will be. As it stands no governments seem to wont to take
the appropriate action so time will tell who is right and who is wrong.

Your debt free too, Barry...best position to be in during these times at the
moment.

OK -- not absolutely debt free, I have a very low interest home equity loan equal to about 1/3 of 1 Percent of my liquid assets -- first because the interest rate is VERY low, and second because the credit score games LIKE a smidgen of debt.

I too try to promote what I consider appropriate government fiscal response. I suspect that what you consider appropriate and what consider appropriate might differ. I also suspect the approach to getting to that response that you and I would advocate are different as well.

Well they put pressure on Greece & the rest of the Eurozone to force austerity through..now it's the turn of those across the pond to "have a go" at the IMF....

IMF warns US of tepid recovery

"Fears are increasing in the US and beyond that Republicans and Democrats will fail to reach agreement over how to temper the pace of the deficit reduction in 2013, alongside delivering a long-term plan on the country's $15 trillion of debt".

The thing is - absent a compromise (and the Teapublicans are not likely to play), there will be a double dip in the US as unless new bills are passed, the full set of the Bush cuts (which includes the reduced taxes on those in the $250K+ bracket) AND sequestration -- (which includes modest but real cuts in the military budget), along with a number of other measures will go in effect in January.

Without a compromise, the IMF should be thrilled they get both the things they want, deficit reduction AND a recession.

The UK is already entering into a double dip recession, if the USA does so as well, will we then see a world wide double dip recession? That would be really worrying. Our General Strike of 1926 and their Wall Street crash of 1929, would look like minor blips.....

Oh yus!!... proportionality, certainly carrying far more debt now than we did
back then!!
