Won't the client start or the manager?

Any actual error messages?

Nope, nothing. That boinc Manager, or Client, im not sure what you mean, but that simple/advanced view thing wount start, and no anykind of messages. Usually it has start right after boot, and ask me to join a project. Its just in start menu, and in program files, so i see, it is installed, and i have put "allow all users to run" like always, even i only have one account.

The manager communicates with the daemon (what the previous poster called the client).

It should give a message of some kind when it does not start. If not, we can always look for stderrgui.txt and stdoutgui.txt to see what is going wrong.

WSAECONNREFUSED - Error 10061
Product: Version: Platform:
ALL ALL ALL

Question/Problem: WSAECONNREFUSED (10061) Connection refused

Answer/Solution: Connection refused. No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. This usually results from trying to connect to a service that is inactive on the foreign host.

User suggestions: Either you went to the wrong host, or the server application you're trying to contact isn't executing. Check the destination address you are using. If you used a hostname, did it resolve to the correct address? If the hostname resolution uses a local hosttable, it's possible you resolved to an old obsolete address. It's also possible that the local services file has an incorrect port number (although it's unlikely).
Document #: Revision Date:
WSK-19980709-EM01 10/01/04

Do you have a firewall? Is it allowing boinc.exe to run as a server on port 31416? Is it allowing BOINCmgr.exe outbound on port 31416? Some firewalls block access even if it is from the local host to the local host.

The other thing to check is to see that BOINC.exe is actually running.

It is in the same directory that you found the other file. Which is, by default on XP, c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC. Application Data is by default hidden.

BTW, when you were looking to see if BOINC.exe was running, did you click the check box to show tasks from all users?

I sense perhaps malware/spyware/virus?

edit: Re-read and I guess it's unlikely. But something on that computer is crashing it that's for sure..

It should not be. I just scan with avast pro my whole computer, and after that reinstall my windows. I have newest zonealarm, so computer should be clean, and it do same thing on my laptop, when i was trying to install boinc on my laptop.

Which ZoneAlarm version is this with?
And which BOINC version are you using?

Have you tried adding BOINC (boinc.exe and boincmgr.exe) to the exclusion zone in ZA?

Some versions of ZA do not turn off gracefully. If off they still block ports. In these cases, ZA has to be uninstalled.
