So as you see after a few hundred years we can recognise the eforts of our cousins across the pond.

Wonder what the views will be in another 300 years of the 20th/21st century leaders.

Oh my.

With all due and appropriate respect to the "Father of our Country", I don't believe that any military historian in the US would rank Washington so high.

The article notes the defeat of Cornwallis at Yorktown, but it was the relentless harassment by the southern continental army under the direction of Nathaniel Greene that prompted Cornwallis to move his army to Yorktown.

Upon the arrival of the French fleet, Washington was determined to assault the British garrison at New York. Fortunately, Comte de Rochambeau convinced Washington that their chances would be better in Virginia. Washington is credited with listening and then changing his mind.

It is true that Washington was a truly inspirational figure and he also did a fine job of selecting talented subordinates. Their names are nearly as famous as his. LaFayette, Greene, Glover, Hamilton, and von Steuben.

From what current english/british village/county was Washington or his ancestors come from? Because usually many american presidents are easily trackable to their uk geo-origin.

I vaguely remember was Clinton from irish origin? and Bush was originated from one english village as I remember...

I have not followed the link. By any chance, was it meant as "one of our most worthy opponents?

William Wallace (victor of the Battle of Stirling Bridge, 1297) and the Duke of Medina Sidonia (Spanish Armada, 1588) were not considered for the poll as it was from the 17th century onwards. If he'd been eligible, Guillaume le Bâtard (1066 and all that), would likely have scored better than either, probably Julius Caesar too, for the invasion of 54 B.C.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ...

That poll indicates the power and effect of the use of a specialized question.

One 3d party's observation is american presidents from english origin were devastating to uk like Washington & Mr.Bush and from irland were kind of positive to uk like Clinton & Obama.

Ooops perhaps irish origin us presidents mostly Democrats and english origin us presidents were mostly all Republicans seemingly?? Wow! (English colonised irish for centuries and Republicans colonise american 99% even make sense!!) (Considering 1% there own 80% of nations wealth and seemingly they all from english origin.)

Suddenly ethnic development laws all make sense! ;)

If you track Geo Back, I had a common ansester William of Normandy. It's a family trait....of Vikings to stir things up, back before that Kings, of Norway and Sweeden....family can track itself back to before Christ was born about 200 BC.

Consider this, George III was more German than English. For that matter, notwithstanding the UK's modern resistance to invasion, far enough back there were lot's of 'change overs'. Before the Normans, there were the Danes and Vikings, before that, Saxons, before that the Angles, before that the Romans, before that Celts (talk about a kicked about people), I believe the Picts were there first -- though that only goes back around 5000 years.

And now of course what you have is a small core stock of English, with lots of the gene pool from the list above PLUS all the modern immigrants from the Empire - India, Pakistan, Africa, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malasia, Burma, the West Indies. etc.
