I just bought a ATI radeon HD 2400 and installed it today. The card is working fine but boinc does not register its existance...

Ive installed the latest version of Catalyst and all drivers included. I read on the web page "http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/GPU_computing" that this card should be supported... have I done something wrong?

Thanks for your help!

If BOINC does not recognize your GPU, it's a drivers problem.
First try a reboot of the system.

If that doesn't jar it loose, it may be that older drivers are in the way. Included in 'older drivers' are drivers of the previous videocard...
So go to this FAQ and follow the instructions.

After that's done, reboot, tell NO to Windows when it asks if it may install drivers for the videocard it found, and instead install the Catalysts you downloaded from ATI/AMD. That is, you did get them from ATI/AMD, didn't you? If not, get them from this link here.

Is this card an AGP or PCIe bus?

It should also be noted that once you get BOINC (not bionic) to recognize your ATi Radeon HD 2400 GPU, SETI@Home does not have an official ATi application to use that GPU... unless you plan to use it on another project or install the Lunatics third-party SETI app.

Since I have done a fresh install of windows on a newly formatted hd, I have not had any other graphics card installed or uninstalled. I did install catalyst from amd's website a couple days ago. My card is installed in my PCIx16 slot. I will try uninstalling all video drivers, running driver sweeper in safe mode, and then reinstall with a fresh download, but no luck yet.

Unfortunately no luck after completing the suggested steps. Should this topic be relisted on a message board for a project that does use the GPU? Or should I just use the Lunatics third-party SETI app to make use of my gpu somehow...

I really would like to have boinc manage GPU usage because I would like to have other projects use it... any other ideas to make this work?

I think it may not be working because I dont have OpenCL on this card I guess

Did you install the motherboard chipset drivers, so that Windows knows there's one (or more) PCI-e slot(s)?
Are you using that videocard as primary videocard?
In the image you provide, the sub-vendor is called Dell. Is this a Dell computer? Is this a videocard bought from Dell?

Yes, conveniently dell gave me a list of all 82 drivers I needed for my pc which I have installed all updated dell drivers for my Optiplex GX280. In the BIOS I made sure the installed video card is selected as primary. In the app GPU-Z the drop down box in the bottom left has no other devices listed.

So yes, its a dell pc, but no, I didnt get the card from dell. The PC uses the GPU when it should, games and screensavers use the GPU... so im stumped.

you are going to be fairly disappointed with the credit production for the 2400...
You are better off spending $50 and getting a 6450 at least then you can run OpenCL apps.

This may be the only project you'd be able to use the 2400 on since most require at least a 4XXX series GPU.

Catalyst 12.3 is not good with WindowsXP. I made that experience in other Projects, (MW@H, Moo, etc).
Last good version is 12.1
