After we installed the BOINC and running the Seti@Home, our laptop is running slow and the mouse is very jerky. Is there a way to fix this from your side with the Seti@Home program? Otherwise we would have to un-install it, though we would love to help out but not at the expense of our work time. --BijTaj

The SETI@Home program already runs at the lowest priority supported by the OS. If your performance is suffering because of the high stress, it usually indicates a weakness in the system's cooling.

If you can, try cleaning out the system with a can of compressed air to blow out all the dust, especially in the fans and the CPU fan particularly.

And if OzzFan's advice doesn't change the responsiveness of your system, you should perhaps disable the use of your nVidia GPU in your SETI@home preferences, since it doesn't seem to be the strongest one.

One other thing, the default setup of BOINC is one where it doesn't run when the computer is in use. So you must've changed the preferences, so you set to use the CPU and GPU when the computer is in use. You may want to recheck those preferences, play with them, so they're back to only do work when the computer is idle (no keyboard taps, no mouse fiddling).

Many machines do badly if the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit aka Video Card) is used for crunching while you are using the computer.
