So I'm waiting for some misguided miscreant to claim that the rocket was sabotaged by the Americans or the Israeli's.

Good, glad it failed. Word on the street is these launches are disguised ballistics tests...
Even if they are not, and they are a true scientific endeavor, I'm not sure I'm comfortable with extremists like that in control of that technology.

The thing is, North Korea *seems* to want aid (food aid in particular) from the west (in particular the US). Given the trustworthyness (ie none) of the rulers there, it seems rather foolish for the US to provide aid to North Korea which might well be used by the rulers. If they need food, it seems to me, that China would be the logical 'go to' for North Korea. China doesn't want North Korea to collapse, as it would create a refugee problem in China which they don't want to handle and it might strengthen the South Koreans, something else China does not want.

No need to encourage MG. He'll do that soon enough on his own.

That rocket is mostly russian technology given the fact that last year 2 or 3 russian satellite rockets failed in russia even 1 was carrying 2 glonass (russian gps) satellites.

But there were some news that n.k.'s were trying to sell gps jammers to iranians which with effective protection range of 150km.

Actually, I am a little surprised that NK has not played that card.

The surprising thing is they haven't managed to get it right yet.

It does expose the propaganda that NK is the source of Iran's technology.

That would be great fun watching all the drivers totally up the proverbial, and most not having a clue as to map reading (let alone carrying a map).

I wonder with that gps jammer anyone might confuse modern smart bombs and cruise missiles with few tens of miles off target.

any jammer is a transmitter, therefore a target.

The Korean Rocket escape attempt was thrwarted by the supreme leaders sub-par
engineering skills.

It's a shame the people are starving in NK. Otherwise this would be funny

Yes, it's sad that withholding food aid is the only thing the US can do about the situation.

A dreadful indictment on the North Korean leaders to spend what little money they have on developing nuclear weapons, rocketry and the standing forces and leaving a significant percentage of their population near starvation.

Regarding the US holding off on food aid, as I understand it that aid was offered in exchange for NK not doing what it just tried to do. So the choice was that of the NK.

Aside from that, it strikes me that NK is China's 'client state' and the China does not want NK to collapse (both because China does not want an additional flood of NK refugees over the border in to China and would not be happy to see Korea united under the South Koreans). China has the resources and the location to readily offer food aid to NK, it should be on them to offer it.
