Where do I find those percentages again? They look familiar, but I don't remember where they are located. Thanks |

Ahh, found it: % of time BOINC is running 95.8198 % While BOINC running, % of time host has an Internet connection 93.5227 % While BOINC running, % of time work is allowed 97.0442 % This seems pretty good for my multi-GPU machine. There are times when I suspend it due to lag issues, while I use the system for other things, but isn't 95%+ pretty good? |

% of time BOINC is running 95.8198 % Yes & no. 100% is best, but if a system is being used for other things that preempt BOINC processing then 95% is way better than only 50%. Keep in mind that 5% of the time BOINC isn't running at all; and in that 95% period where it is running 3% of that time no work is being processed. So it's more like 8% of the time the computer is on, no processing is done which means your RAC will never be near a similar system that runs 24/7 & doesn't pause processing at any time. EDIT- and keep in mind that is just one of yuor systems. You'd want to check all the others to make sure that they're not spending extended periods not doing any crunching- if they are crunching only machines those figures should be pretty much 100%. I would check "% of time BOINC is running" & "While BOINC is running % of time work is allowed" to make sure the systems are processing work all the time. Funny, the 1st v7 machine does have a decent cache, but the newest one I set up last night doesn't. It has 4 tasks running with 4 waiting in the wings, and never gets more. How do I set the overide on this system specifically, to get a decent cache? Being a GTX670 running 4 tasks at once, it will burn thru them fairly quickly, and if the project doesn't have anything to give now and then, it will be sitting idling. Thanks! |

Funny, the 1st v7 machine does have a decent cache, but the newest one I set up last night doesn't. Having just been setup, it will take several days for it's processing numbers to settle down & the DCF number to get down to around 1.0. As it starts getting accurate processing time figures it should start caching more work. I don't have V7, but in V6 it's in BOINC manager, Advanced tab, Preferences. Make sure to clear everything there so it can download the preferences from the web site. Then on the web site make sure it's set to use the same settings as the system that does have a good cache. Then let it go & see if it improves over the next few days. Grant Darwin NT |

Just checked this morning, she's loaded for bear, has a bunch of tasks ready to rock. It will be fun to see how well an Atom proc'ed board can keep up with a very high end card. I would think fairly well, but I am still pretty fuzzy as to just how much processor a good GPU needs to keep it happy and well fed. I would like to use the CPU to add whatever it can to the total, but since it is an Atom, it wouldn't be a ton, and GPU is king in those systems, so if I err, I'd rather do it on the side of not harming the GPU performance. Can anyone enlighten me? |
