Nora Dean: Barbwire....who likes reggae.
Nora penned the lyrics to this tune whilst in the bathroom of a recording
studios in Kingston Jamaica back in 1969.
She came up with these lyrics as a joke and showed them to the studio
producer and the engineers and all had a laugh. The studio engine said
they had an old tune that they could run these lyrics over the top off
and all decided to run and record it for a bit of fun. Nora had only penned
a few lyrics and part way through the recording she ran out of lyrics, you'll
know this point when you here her give out a very short stifled laugh here
she then sings Ya Ya Ya then repeats all the lyrics again. Being that they
recorded it for a bit of a joke they didn't think to much of it when the
studio engineer suggested that they press and release it. They decided to
issue it just to see what the response to it would be. The end story was that
it sold 13 million copies world-wide and earned the recording company $10 million
in 1969. Nora unfortunately only earned $70 out of it even though she wrote the
lyrics but that was how it was with these Jamaican recording companies back then.
