I am new to SETI and have been running SETI@home Enhanced for about two weeks. I am wondering what statistics displayed by the screen saver might suggest a possible extraterrestrial signal. The statistics are Best Pulse Power, Best Triplet Power and the Score. And also, what might a graphed possible extraterrestrial signal look like as displayed by the screen saver? What else might I look for when running SETI@home Enhanced that might suggest a possible extraterrestrial signal? Thank you for you help ... JM |

I have never seen a display of what an intelligent signal might look like on the SETI@home screen. It would be interesting to see an example run of what they suppose we are looking for. Unlike the other SETI project there is really nothing we the suppliers of all that massive computing power can do except allow it to run as much as possible. What and how... Read in a previous version site SETI@home (see links) http://seticlassic.ssl.berkeley.edu/screensaver/index.html http://seticlassic.ssl.berkeley.edu/screensaver/data_analysis.html http://seticlassic.ssl.berkeley.edu/rfi/index.html |

Thanks Alex!!! Since viewing The Science Channel and running SETIhome@Enhanced I have become more inquisitive about SETI and its work and would like to learn more. I anticipate that I will have more questions after reading the information from the links you provided. Then maybe I can find a book or two geared toward a novice like myself that can help me understand more. Thanks again, Jim |

Thanks very much Alex. I read the articles and they give me a much better view of the data that is being displayed. I'll have to read the articles a couple of more time to let the information sink in so to speak. I have a background in statistics, not math statistics, so I have a general understanding of what is going on. I cannot believe the number of calculations associated with each task!!! Just received some AstroPulse data and read about AstroPulse at the same website you sent. I'm excited about running this data as the approach for searching for an ETI signal is much different. All best to you, Jim Minor |
