I recall Chicago having a similar problem years ago. The Chinese are at fault again. They use cheap untreated wood for pallets. These pallets are made of cheap wood that is typically infected with the Beetle larva. The larva does what it does and generally matures as the pallet is delivered. Sadly the beetles are none to particular to what type of tree they infest. I recall the locals cutting down every softwood tree in a 1/4 mile radius of any infected trees. I assume they had some limited success with it.

Nowadays tens of thousands of containers shipped from china to eu and americas destinations each quarter the receivers should not expect only goods in those 40 ton containers there might be many different kinds of natural organic beings supposedly shipped.

... And some proofs leak here and there of course... ;)

But sometimes very unusual migrations occur for example italians claim that some very dangerous river fish from america destroying italian rivers habitats or something asian carp fish destroying american rivers happen. How these 2 incidences could happen some lab jobs maybe...

Some big catfish were introduced into Italian rivers and are destroying the local fish population. Also some big muskrats called "nutrie" introduced as fur sources are destroying our levees by boring tunnels.

Compare to these natural live migration and invasion human migration and destruction of environment is always 100 times worse.

I personally saw plastic bag trashes here and there in french forest nearby a resort and tons of pollution at the supposedly pristine lake nearby heavily regulated place in washington dc city. So westerners heavily invade or destroy own natural environment with heavy consumptive style.

In central asia traditionally if you pollute nature that is one kind of worst greed that being believed for centuries but thanks to modern consumerism from western influences plastic bags and bottles joined natural scenery there too.

On a more serious note than my previous post.
Relocation of non indigenous species is not a Chinese problem or a Western
problem it is a human problem,we are all to blame.
Stricter decontamination procedures are needed worldwide.
We see the effects of larger animals (or invasive plants) and their effect
on their new "home" easier than the smaller ones, but both can cause devastating
results .
When an ecosystem is allowed millions of years to develop it becomes balanced.
Even the top predators have something that will cause their death (be it one of their
own or a microbe/virus,which may only exist in that particular region of the world.
When species are introduced (either accidentally or deliberately) ,the natural balance
is broken and what happens next cannot be predicted.
Species have in the past been deliberately relocated to solve a problem, which has
resulted in greater unforeseen problems when the "experiment" looses control, and in extreme cases the extinction of some local species.
But even the relocation of different strains of virus or disease can cause even greater
problems than the easier to see catfish, beetles, snakes, cats, rats and dogs etc.
Border controls in all countries need to be stepped up (although I feel it is already
too late to stop this ongoing mass extinction of species worldwide) ,but we may
be able to gain/regain some control over it with stricter measures.

Edit : if you are wondering what deliberately introduced species(and I am not including
"liberated pets" ) I am talking about,Cane toads,Nile Perch,Wells catfish etc
There are many others, and when they are introduced to an island to control a problem
( as domestic cats have been ) the results can be catastrophic.
There have also been plant species deliberately introduced which have caused a great
impact on the local ecosystem, taking over and displacing local flora on which indigenous
insects or birds etc rely upon for survival.

Just 2 years ago american food drug related ministry has approved 50% larger growing genetically modified salmon which also take a lot less time to grow fully. And it is clear that within few years that new genetically modified monster begins to invade all local rivers and maybe someone again will introduce that monster to eu river ecosystem which with high probability will destroy fresh water ecosystem with unknown terrible results.

The point is the pollution science has reached to whole new level. Or another ways science itself is morphing into polluting power.

If they are triploid they are sterile. Alot of the rainbow trout that gets planted in california streams and lakes are triploid. They dont reproduce and because of that they grow to monster size. Trout are belong to the salmon family so I am thinking there is nothing to worry about. Now the hatcheries they are raised in are what bugs me. The hatcheries are quite full of bugs and disease that live on the fish grown there. When they release them into the wild they also release the bugs/disease. :P
