What price education? | |

It is understood Mr Edmonds offered to fund the PhD student to research a project into understanding what drives internet trolls to wage campaigns against people they have never met. I agree with Sirius, nice one Noel. As a friend of someone who suffered from that first hand, that is good to hear.

What price education? Sirius, you certainly get this feeling at times. At one time, going to university meant something special and people looked up to you for having true ability. These days this is not the case for doesn't everyone today go on to university. To this end then they can't all have true abilities otherwise the UK would be literally rocking along - yet it isn't. ____________ The Kite Fliers -------------------- Kite fliers: An imaginary club of solo members, those who don't yet belong to a formal team so "fly their own kites" - as the saying goes.

The advent of the Internet and rise of the social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook, has allowed reclusive people with psychological and mental conditions to practice, up until now mainly anonymously, what they couldn't outwardly do in real life. It was only a matter of time before it got to the proportions where laws had to be introduced to curb it.

The Net itself cannot be blamed for that, it would've happened even if the Net did not exist. Of course the Net itself cannot be blamed for that, it was the social networking sites via the Web that made use of the net, that were to blame. If the net or the web hadn't been there, the sites wouldn't have been able to operate, and it wouldn't have happened. Many people use the terms Internet and World Wide Web (aka. the Web) interchangeably, but in fact the two terms are not synonymous. The Internet and the Web are two separate but related things.

So Brixton, Toxteth & Tottenham didn't happen then? Of course they did, but they were not orchestrated in the manner that last years UK riots were, that is the whole point. There is credible evidence that many of the riots were co-ordinated via social networking sites, to alert law breakers where the next event was planned to take place. It was in the same way as illegal raves are advertised.
