The screen saver may or may not be available for your computing environment. However, the screen saver is not needed for the computations to proceed.

If your Graphics Card (GPU) is used for processing, then the screen saver is not available...

The steps to get it installed:

1) Download the BOINC installer from http://boinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/download.php
2) Run the installer. Pick the protected mode if your graphics card is not capable of doing computations for at least one of your chosen projects.
3) In the UI that you have just installed, sign up for projects.

NOTE: If the screen saver is available, then you select it in the normal manner for your Operating System.
