There would at least be fewer scheduler requests mixed into the total traffic in the pipe, but I suppose that's a pretty insignificant part of the total.

Actually, it would be a significant amount, especially once we can carry a full cache again.
When i was able to carry a 4 day cache my client_state file was over 4MB in size. My understanding is that file is sent to the Scheduler whenever a Scheduler request is made. Some of the faster systems with larger caches would probably have files in excess of 12MB, so sending that every 30 or 60 minutes instead of every 5 minutes due to retries would help things out.

Message 1217863 - Posted: 13 Apr 2012, 23:42:12 UTC - in response to Message 1217724.

I know, some people will not like me anymore after they have read following remarks, but I have to write them down:
- Download works at a quite unusual high speed of appr. 150 kB / sec. This value is one of the highest I've ever seen!
- Bandwith is not maxed out as I can see.
- And all this is only possible when all the AP splitters are not running! Happened several times in the last few months.
- Could there be a relationship between AP splitters not running and speed of download?
- If yes, why not try to separate AP totally from MB? I know, this would take some time and (even more) money. But why not at least discuss it.

Glad to hear multiple opinions of fellow crunchers!

Rolf

The point is, my friend, separating AP from MB would require another bandwidth pipe to handle it. If that were possible, either technically or financially, it could be done right now with the current server infrastructure already in place. It's not a matter of separating the two different classes of WUs, it's having access to enough bandwidth to support the whole project.

I'm not sure if anyone else has spotted it, but it looks as if one tape is "hanging" 28no11ab has been in much the same state since (at least) Friday evening. Probably nothing will be done until the Tyre Kicker in Chief gets in on Monday, in which case its a simple matter of sitting back and waiting for the tanks to dry up sometime tomorrow....

Oh no my machines are downloading nothing but shorties!

On the plus side they are currently actually downloading them & the pegged bandwidth doesn't seem to be choking them off just yet.

That cannot be!

That calls for panic.

They stamped out shorties for too long,
now they got what they deserve.

Interesting. Uploads go right through for me, and APs download in just over 2 minutes (~65KB/sec).

Looking at my log & it showns uploads being flakey here as well.
Most go through OK, but some take a couple of attempts.

Cosmic_Ocean, that task will have shown up in your pending list as "Completed, validation inconclusive" for a couple of days while your replacement wingmate was working on it.

If you happen to notice any more like that while you're filling out your spreadsheet, it would be helpful if you could flag them up at that stage. That gives the developers a chance to grab the data file in advance, and if it turns out to be something worth investigating (as this one might have been), they'll have the chance to investigate further.

Noted. Sorry for over-looking that one until it was too late. I just checked with Recuva but it can't be recovered from disk, either.

The only thing I've got is the std_err from it. I was _0, _1 and _2 were both stock 6.01. Here's the only useful part of std_err:

### Restart at 73.77 percent.
    single pulses: 1
repetitive pulses: 1
  percent blanked: 0.00
class Astropulse::T_AppInit: total=1.90e+010, N=1
class Astropulse::T_AppCrunch: total=3.37e+013, N=1
called boinc_finish

Next time I see CBNC/inconclusive, I'll report it.

Well lets see:
Cache now filling up due to astropulse times back to normal-check
Tasks downloading faster than ever-check
Tasks only retrying once or twice for the whole task to be downloaded-check

Complaints? Erm, er, the outage was too short :)

There is a new thread suggested by Richard Haselgrove for inconclusive work units.
