You wouldn't think this would happen in the 21st century ......

Boys/Girls

Really? Why Not?

Boy or Girl?

It's a Boy!

Sorry, but I see highlighting the nationality as pure racism!

OMG Sirius, quite the wrong time to play the racist card. In Chris' link the deception is for cultural reasons and according to the article such action is not uncommon in that culture. Therefore it is reasonable for the left leaning and terribly PC BBC to mention the country.

In your links, the parents are just 'strange" (to be polite).

T.A.

BTW I would appreciate an explanation as to why you think the news item is "racism". This word is bandied about so freely these days it has totally lost its meaning.

Sorry, but it is. there are many cases like this, just google it. I haven't the time as I've seen this too many times in the workplace in the UK - Brits looking down & mocking other nationalities but these same people do not like themselves being mocked & when done so, their reply is to pack up & leave if one does not like - Therefore Racism!

so now it's the "little" nationalities turn to mock them!

Where is the mocking ? It reads pretty straight to me, not the slightest bit smarmy and the Brits are experts at smarmy (Is that a racist comment?). What you describe as racist above(i.e. "pack up and leave") is a common response the world over, sometimes the statement is enforced at gun point

Your reply also fails to explain why you think the news item is racist. I'm not asking you to provide other examples of parents cross dressing their kids just quantify your opinion as to WHY that item is racist.

Each culture has its own quirks, others should be able to mention these quirks without the "R" card being played. We are not all the same grey sludge, that's what makes the world so interesting. Being able to discuss differences is as important as discussing similarities (although even that can get you called a racist these days).

I did not say the news item was racist but the op's reference to Afghan - Why them when, even though that may be part of their culure, it happens throughout the world.

It seems to me that since the collapse of the "Brit" empire, that elitism is still inbred into the culture of the British people who dislike those types of references to themselves.

If you discount that, then why is Australia attempting to get away from that very culutre by wishing to become a republic?

But the country of the people concerned is mentioned many times in the news item, it has nothing to do with the OP

Edit: And the country's name would have been mentioned no matter what the country the news item had originated in

Oz won't become a republic for a while yet, support for the Republican movement drops 10 points around this time every 4 years. A constitutional monarchy is so much simpler :-)

But you said it yourself - the leftish BBC & because they did it, it's ok for the op to continue propagating that biased broadcaster's views?

That only makes the problem either worse or by posting it, the op agrees with their view of life. If not, then it can only be seen as..... funny/belittling - or have I left something out?

T.A. -- I think Sirius' reaction to some degree reflects the inclination of many who post on a 'Politics' board to be reactive and perhaps a tad over-zealous in assuming negative intent by those who's views don't conform with their views.

That appears to be part and parcel of the increasing inclination to close down avenues of discussion by converting them to argument -- which gets increasingly heated.

Not reactive my son, just finally realising after all these years that to get on I have to "bend with the wind"

So I'm joining the PC brigade...& I must admit, I'm enjoying it. More fun than getting broke by trying to stand against the wind.

Hmmmn, does that mean if I try hard enough, I can become an mp?

I also said the Beeb was "terribly PC", therefore it cannot be racist.

Also I don't think you read the same article I did (maybe the link was corrupted by your browser) nor have you read any of my posts well enough to understand them.

By the way. Are you attacking the news item or the OP ?

But, but, but, the BBC Can't be PC. It's against PC policy to show children in unfavourable positions & that report is unfavourable to the PC brigade.

Personally I think you are being racist against the Brits. I get the impression you may be an expatriate so what made you so twisted and bitter against them ?

Wow, thanks for the compliment! No, I'm not an ex-pat. I'm a Pat(pun intended)

As for being racist, wrong friend. Believe it or not I actually love England, it really is a beautiful country & I personally think that many here in the UK should go & "look at the sky & smell the roses" a bit more.

But racism is against the people not the country they live in. You may love the country but you are displaying racism against the people who live in it.

You can't be PC and racist.

...dunno....could be the 1st I suppose! Again not racist whatsoever, just dislike the hyprocisy & duplicity that has become a stranglehold in the country, so cannot see how that is racist.

Simple, by assuming all Poms are guilty of hypocrisy and duplicity you are being racist.....

Is this article racist? Because the woman lived in Pakistan and they mention the country where events occurred? If that's our standard, well, I mention you're living in Ireland. Ta da, now I am a ******, even though I am 25%-50% Irish.
Funny thing, how that works, eh?
