	You know, it occurred to me today at work, that I am so different from the average American in general interest and tech knowledge, it would really be nice to have at least a thread going for geeks to talk geek stuff.. I suppose we could start with anything from what kinda rig(s) are you running seti@home on, or discuss something like "Why haven't we found definitive proof (or have we)" -Dave

	I suppose we could start with anything from what kinda rig(s) are you running seti@home on, or discuss something like "Why haven't we found definitive proof (or have we)" Nothing too exotic for the compute rigs here. All just a rag-tag mix of mainly Linux and even a few Microsoft. The weirdest was an old Epia C3 system which didn't include all the advertised x86 instruction set! (Rescued by the wonders of custom compiles and Gentoo Linux.) The main server keeps this area warm with the help of some GPU number crunching (Linux ofcourse). And we have found ET. We are it! 	Ive been running seti on two machines. My xeon server is performing as expected. Whats amazing to me however, is how poorly my older p4 is doing relative to my server. The p4 machine has seti allowed 100% proc time. The xeon server has seti allowed 50% proc time on the bottom line linux. The server is also supplying further resources to seti through two virtual machines running within itself. So the server is donating about 60-75% of it's capability. And is doing exponentially more work than that p4 allowed 100% proc time. Amazing. I need to wait several weeks before I have true numbers for everything running seti, a few of the machines were just added. Im interested to see where my rac will end up with most of my seti work coming out of a single rig. Oh, and I am not running any GPUs. I didn't design my rig with crunching in mind, it's main use is as my personal server for safe redundant file storage and whatever other slave work or heavy work I wanted to throw at it. I myself couldn't use more than about 10-15% of it's resources on average, so I really had to find a use for my new baby. Hence, donate proc time for a cause. :-) -Dave

	Mandriva huh? Havn't checked it out. But it looks like android gone desktop, I could get into that... I like buntu, and debain distros in general. I started out on the other side of things by playing with suse and redhat, then stopped for several years, then a couple years ago I found out about debain builds and never stopped and never turned back.
