Welcome back, old ASUS Z9100L.

I have the sad duty to inform you all, that my old friend since 2005, old ASUS Z9100L, have committed suicide through a hard disk crash.

When I came home this evening after work, the screen nagged me about a bootable disk. A thorough investigation, by attaching the drive to another computer, and running some diagnostics test, told me that the HD had departed from the living.

I apologize to my wingmen, that ASUS Z9100L will not finish its work in progress, which is one MB here on main, and three AP 6.01 on Beta.

Since it is nothing else wrong with my old friend, I may one day give it a new HD, and revive it from the dead. Until then I will let it rest for a while though, something it richly deserves.

Goodbye old friend, you served me well for many years before I attached you to SETI, and you managed to crunch quite a few workunits, and achieve the enourmous credit of 115,953, and at your prime climb to an RAC of almost 400.

Rest in peace, or in the worst case, rest in pieces....

At the moment I'm ripping out the heart (motherboard) of my dedicated cruncher, add some voodoo and it'll continue to serve me for years to come. (I just hope not too many workunits will time out due to waiting for the spare I ordered.)

Actually I considered just replacing the leaky magic smoke reservoirs (capacitors) but the ordering time and the relatively small price difference made me opt for a complete change of heart.

I just ordered a Western Digital Scorpio Blue 160GB 2,5" ATA drive to it.

Not counting other factors, including nostalgia, I wouldn't spend SEK 700 / USD 100 for a RAC of 200. The money would be better used towards a new computer that would be a better cruncher.

More bang for your money if you had bought another GPU for your top rig instead of trying to revive such an old/slow system.

Money is not an issue. If I wanted to, I could afford buying 10 new computers with the fastests GPU's you could find on this planet. However I do not want to do that. What I wanted was to bring new life into my old Celeron with a new HD.
