I have the sad duty to inform you all, that my old friend since 2005, old ASUS Z9100L, have committed suicide through a hard disk crash.

...which is one MB here on main, and three AP 6.01 on Beta. Poor old thing didn't stand a chance. It had no antibodies to deal with such an alien ecosystem;) Sorry for your loss Sten. This is the CeleronM I presume?

It's not dead, it's only sleeping. That's the good thing about computers. You can resurrect them at will, the undead. At the moment I'm ripping out the heart (motherboard) of my dedicated cruncher, add some voodoo and it'll continue to serve me for years to come. (I just hope not too many workunits will time out due to waiting for the spare I ordered.)

It's not dead, it's only sleeping. Don't forget to replace the magic smoke....LOL. ____________ ****** "Ask not, what your kitty can do for you. Ask what you can do for your kitty." As it is kitten, so shall it be done.

It's not dead, it's only sleeping. Hopefully the new kit comes with it's own supply, trying to put your own back in gets very messy, as old magic smoke is usually not compatible with new kit. ____________ Donate with your searches and online buys: http://www.goodsearch.com/toolbar/university-of-california-setihome

It's not dead, it's only sleeping. Actually I considered just replacing the leaky magic smoke reservoirs (capacitors) but the ordering time and the relatively small price difference made me opt for a complete change of heart.

It's not dead, it's only sleeping. I thought it was just the magic smoke hard resevoirs that were at fault. Simply resmoked. ____________ ****** "Ask not, what your kitty can do for you. Ask what you can do for your kitty." As it is kitten, so shall it be done.

...which is one MB here on main, and three AP 6.01 on Beta. Yes, it's the CeleronM 370. After a good nights sleep, I think I will give the little bugger a new HD, and revive it. ____________ /The grumpy old Swede. "I'm so old, that 98% of all trees in the forest, are younger than I am"

...which is one MB here on main, and three AP 6.01 on Beta. Yes Mark, and it will not be sleeping for long. I just ordered a Western Digital Scorpio Blue 160GB 2,5" ATA drive to it. The original HD was only 40GB, so I think it will like this one. I even found my ASUS original recovery DVD's, so this is going to be easy. The HD is expected to arrive as fast as on Monday, or Tuesday. Nowadays it's a little bit harder to find ATA/IDE drives. I don't think they make ATA/IDE SSD's, so I didn't even look for that. ____________ /The grumpy old Swede. "I'm so old, that 98% of all trees in the forest, are younger than I am"

I just ordered a Western Digital Scorpio Blue 160GB 2,5" ATA drive to it. Not counting other factors, including nostalgia, I wouldn't spend SEK 700 / USD 100 for a RAC of 200. The money would be better used towards a new computer that would be a better cruncher.

I just ordered a Western Digital Scorpio Blue 160GB 2,5" ATA drive to it. I know, and I will not force you at gunpoint to do it either :-) And the RAC was 400, not 200 when it crunched 24/7. ____________ /The grumpy old Swede. More bang for your money if you had bought another GPU for your top rig instead of trying to revive such an old/slow system.

More bang for your money if you had bought another GPU for your top rig instead of trying to revive such an old/slow system. But there are other things in life than just thinking about crunching, isn't it? Money is not an issue. If I wanted to, I could afford buying 10 new computers with the fastests GPU's you could find on this planet. However I do not want to do that. What I wanted was to bring new life into my old Celeron with a new HD. ____________ /The grumpy old Swede. "I'm so old, that 98% of all trees in the forest, are younger than I am"

Well, if you don't want to buy a new GPU for yourself, buy one for me :p ____________ Donate with your searches and online buys: http://www.goodsearch.com/toolbar/university-of-california-setihome
