I just rejoined. Waiting for server to to be available. I recall in 2001 that we saw the task being analyzed in terms of a colorfull display showing time, signal strength, and frequency. But while waiting for the server I've been browsing some of the forums and get the impression we will see very little compared to the classic version. Is that right? I hope not.

The screen saver is still available, just not in the static Classic version, but in a 3D version. However, it's only available on the Seti Multibeam CPU and Astropulse applications, not on the CUDA GPU application.

This with the --by now no longer true-- thought that when you run intricate 3D graphics at the same time as doing calculations on the graphics processing unit (GPU), you may end up with lots of errors in the calculations. However, since the CUDA application was made by Nvidia themselves, and that team of programmers has been disbanded, there's no way that this application will ever get the graphics app added.

So if I find the Seti Multibeam CPU screen saver or Astropulse I will have an active screen saver? Are these applications available to everyone?

I'm sorry I'm so dense but do I have CUDA, Multibeam or Astroplus? If I have CUDA how do I get one of the others. Still no tasks downloaded by BOINC (about 12 hours). I've kept it active. My computer is a new, pricey Dell with an Intel I7 CPU and Win7x64. It's just that forum topics elswhere seem to suggest that CUDA is kinda boring. Been looking for step by step instructions in the help files but they seem to rapidly get into details like Linux, etc.

Are there screen shots somewhere that show what CUDA, Astroplus or Multibeam look like? What determines if CUDA or one of the others is downloaded?

Correction, it's Astropulse, not -plus. Just as it is BOINC, not the overly favourite Bionic, but that aside. ;-)

You do have an Nvidia GeForce GT 530 with reasonably up-to-date drivers, so when you do get work appointed, it can be for CPU (Astropulse and Multibeam) or your GPU (Multibeam).

Since a couple of days ago, the project is releasing new applications, with new application version numbers. But in all, when you do have work appointed and downloaded, it ought to be showing in BOINC Manager, Advanced view, Tasks tab, Application column:
Astropulse v5.05
Astropulse v6.01
Seti_Enhanced Multibeam v6.03
Seti_Enhanced Multibeam CUDA v6.10 (cuda_fermi)
Seti_Enhanced Multibeam v7.xx (but this one is highly unlikely).

Depends on what they meant. Running multiple tasks per hour on the GPU isn't something I'd call boring. Running multiple tasks at the same time on the GPU isn't something I'd call boring either, although for the latter you need to use an anonymous platform file and then I'll be getting too technical. so forget about that one for now. ;-)
