Message 1211684 - Posted: 29 Mar 2012, 21:23:43 UTC - in response to Message 1211680.

BOINC manager is not able to connect to a BOINC client. Would you like to connect again?

Please check in Windows Firewall, Exceptions, if boinc.exe and boincmgr.exe are showing there. If they aren't, add them

Start->Control Panel->System and Security->Windows Firewall->Allow a program through Windows firewall;

Boinc.exe may be showing as just that, or as BOINC Client.
Boinmgr.exe may be showing as just that, or as BOINC Manager.

Click Change settings, then when boinc.exe and boincmgr.exe are in the list, add a check mark in front of them and one for Home/Work (Private).
If they aren't in the list, click "Allow another program", browse to C:\Program Files\BOINC\ and one by one add boinc.exe and boincmgr.exe then add the check mark in front and at Home/Work (Private). When done, click OK at the bottom. No need to reboot or anything.

The BOINC client has exited unexpectedly 3 time within the last 14 minutes. Would you like to restart it again?

This sounds like you installed BOINC as a service, or as a protected application execution. Is that correct? See this FAQ if you want to remember what the installer screens looked like.

Do you also know where you installed BOINC to? Is it the directory C:\Program Files\BOINC\, or is it somewhere else?

What if you were to uninstall BOINC --through Start->Control Panel->Uninstall a program-- and then reinstall it, but this time not as a service? Does that work better?

Thanks! Now I'm connected when I log in as an admin on my computer but disconnected when I log in as a guest user...I did however change my screensaver to the Bionic and still waiting to see how it turns out.

It is normal to only be able to access BOINC (or just about any program) under the account in which it's running.

That's the default behavior for a typical BOINC installation. If you want additional users to be able to control BOINC, add them to the boinc_admins security group created during install.

You need to describe the problem better... newer versions of BOINC don't require you to manually enter a path. You just select a project and go.

So:

What version of BOINC are you using?

How are you adding a project?

What error message are you receiving?

Version 3.42.0.0 Unable to add project. Prompt come up Seti@home client not found. Enter Seti@home path. Web site says to enter http://setiathome.berkeley.edu
But that does not work. Bottom line on prompt says "you need to have a work unit in S@H folder"

You're using an extremely outdated version of BOINC. Please download the latest version from here.

SETI will not work with versions older than 5.??.

Seti will work on 4.19 and 4.45+, since these are the versions you might come across when tasks beget zero credit.

Message 1215595 - Posted: 8 Apr 2012, 11:30:36 UTC

Hello, so I've downloaded and installed the latest version of BOINC for Win7 64-bit. I've changed the preferences to use max of everything besides my bandwidth. (wife's laptop that is never used)

I added SETI@home project and set it to run, made an account and joined a team but I still cannot receive any work.

It says for the SET@home status "Scheduler request pending"
Did i set it up wrong? thought I was to install BOINC, add a project, setup my bandwidth and when it can work, and sit back and receive work and let it do its thing.

Just wondering if I did something wrong, or if i just need to be more patient.
They lappy's getting hot though, so I assume something is working right ;)

Thanks for the future help.

also, Communication deferred?

It appears you have 4 WU's either downloading or acutally on your PC. I also see that you've aborted or abandoned 1 WU.

You're in the process of downloading 3 SETI@Home Enhanced Multibeam and 1 AstroPulse. Be patient and they'll download.

I have been running this for several years now. Have it on a bunch of computers. Just put Bionic on another and been trying for a week to get it to download the packets but can not get them for some reason. The work units download then says failed. Any help would be great...

Your problem seems to be with the picture (png) files for the project, not with the tasks themselves. See if setting
Skip image file verification? yes
Check this ONLY if your Internet provider modifies image files (UMTS does this, for example).
Skipping verification reduces the security of BOINC.
in your Computing preferences helps. Make sure that you use the same settings in your local preferences or to clear them altogether.

Gundolf, did as you suggested, still not getting the work units. All the settings are the same on all my computers. Still try trying to get it to work. I have checked that the "PNG" files are there and that they open.

Okay, then please reboot that machine (is it this one?) and post the first twenty to thirty lines of the BOINC event log here.
