Thank you thank you, it was a real struggle,
and then when I phrased the question a little
bit better it came right up. I must admit I
thought it was a float for the Rose Parade
in the USA, and I thought it was made out
of flowers. I’ll get a pic ready that I have
had my eye on for the last few weeks. I hope
it is not too hard.

This one is not going to be easy. Let’s see what we can deduce. Based on the increasing amplitude of the waves It is highly likely that the picture was taken from land. The fact that the waves are so small indicates a protected body of water, a sound, bay or fijord. The sun being in the left would indicated that this is a sunset and not a sunrise, meaning this is south west facing. The small bit of visible land looks like it has pine trees and steep slopes. That indicates a northern latitude. These facts could fit several locations but my best guess is that It’s a view of the Puget sound most likely from Orcas Island.

Did I get any of that right Holmes?

Did I get any of that right Holmes?

From land = yes,
a sound, bay or fijord = yes
this is south west facing = no
northern latitude = just a bit south of north (a tiny bit)
Puget sound most likely from Orcas Island = very no
but still not bad at all.

No, 45’ north Lat’ is between north and south on the north side of the globe, 46’ is north of south, and 44’ is south of north. The big hint for today is that this place is somewhat south of 45’ north Lat. I hope I did not mix you all up, and I hope I am not giving all of this away with that hint. I would not worry about this anywhere else, but you people are very quick minded as a group.
