If I'm running BOINC, and then I upgrade my video card, will it detect the new video card in my computer? Or do I need to do something to have it check the computer again (benchmarks).

It should as long as you make sure the driver version is correct. It also matters a great deal what series GPU you are choosing. Since you run a 430 its probably not going to matter much.
