Hey, Florida, sounds like you've got some GREAT self-defense laws. But why is "Zimmerman's" voice so high when he's crying for help?

The entire situation is just bizarre. Zimmerman makes the statement that "these assholes always get away" to the 911 operator, chases down the kid without cause and against the orders of the operator, ends up drawing and firing his weapon at an UNARMED person, kills him, and then claims it was self-defense. I hope the police investigation gets to the bottom of it.

I hope the police investigation gets to the bottom of it. I didn't hear that quote, but I heard the rest. And whatever happened to "responding with equal force" as opposed to the escalation (responding with a more powerful weapon) in the Florida "Stand Your Ground" law?!? (And in this case, I guess since the teen turned out to be unarmed, any weapon besides fists would be more powerful.) I hope somebody does a voice analysis to prove it could not have been Zimmerman screaming for "help".

Yeah, he actually says that to the operator on the released 911 recording. And I'm not entirely sure Stand Your Ground applies to this situation, since he intentionally chased him and put himself in a *potentially* dangerous situation without cause. No one was being attacked or hurt by the kid at the time, that would have been entirely different. I guess Zimmerman didn't get the memo that if you're running someone down in order to kill them, they aren't the assailant, you are. I guess the officers on scene didn't get that memo, either.

Guess we'll never know the facts since it has been labeled a black/white thing.

Nah, it has become a hoodie thing -- the hoodie defense -- because the victim was wearing a hoodie, I felt threatened. Guess we'll never know the facts since it has been labeled a black/white thing.

Nah, it has become a hoodie thing -- the hoodie defense -- because the victim was wearing a hoodie, I felt threatened. Of course it has to be the hoodie thing unless we haven't heard of the twinkies yet. As we can't send Mr. Spock to do a meld, you are right, we will never know for sure. But once all the friends of the murderer are interviewed and all his posts, facebook pages and the like are shown to the jury then they might have an inkling what the bastard was thinking. Premeditation is the word I suspect will be the jury's decision. ____________

Hey, Florida, sounds like you've got some GREAT self-defense laws. But why is "Zimmerman's" voice so high when he's crying for help? I have lived in Ohio, Virginia and now Florida. All three have "stand your ground" laws. I have been a gun owner all my adult life. I know many gun owners. My father was a police officer. I know many police officers. I have never heard anyone even remotely suggest that "stand your ground" applied in a situation where the gun user started a confrontation. It has always been in context of home defense. It has been in opposition to some states such as Maryland which require running away if possible instead of confrontation. That does not comment upon the case law in Florida which is usually separate from what laymen think laws mean. In matters of law police officers are little better than laymen. ____________ Unvarnished Haaretz Jerusalem Post The origin of the Yahweh Cult
