I leave all of my computers on 24/7. I never shut them off even on holidays. They don't need to be monitored at all and I've never had a problem doing it.

It depends. For 7 days i would do as you suggested, but for longer i set "connect every X days" to 0 (zero) on the preferences side, update the project and let the cache run dry.

All 3 of my computers stay on 24/7 even when away on holiday. Leave the settings just like you run them when you are home. Boinc will continue without you looking at the stats. :-)

The only thing is my broadband connection goes off sometimes for an unknown reason so it may be better downloading 7 days worth incase my connection fails. If it fails and results cannot upload would that effect seti?I think I want enough work in the pc incase my connection cuts off so my pc can still crunch without running out.I do not holiday any longer than say 8 days so the wu's would not go past their deadline. If the connection cut off would all the finished wu's just goto the transfer tab until I came home and connected it up again and then they would all upload? Is there a limit to wu's we can download.I guess 7 days worth would be like (2 wu's in 3 hours and 30 mins so that would be like 100 wu's )

Just remember, the cache-setting gives between N & 2N days, so if set to 7 you can get upto 14 days cache, therefore wouldn't recommend setting higher than 6 since only away 8 days.

If you disable network-connection, they will not show up on transfer-tab before re-enabling network. If you don't disable, they'll just do exponential backoff if can't upload, that is if you're not running v4.5x, so shouldn't be a problem.

But on very long outages, the uploads will eventually give up, so if example away a month your best solution is load up with CPDN-wu in case connection goes down.

I am running 4.13 with 4.07.So its best to click the disable network access on seti and just turn my connection off then?I notice after a few days(2-3 days) my broadband connection just drops and I have to reconnect on my pc.

With only 8 days it shouldn't be a problem either way, but since connection anyway very likely drops out it's easier to disable network-access.

this reflection could be expanded...

HOLA!

There are more people taking there PC with in holiday than you can imagine.

But as laptops/notebooks.

One use can be, to copy the taken pictures from digicam to the pc,
or precious touristic pages/guides could be downloaded.

In theorie 2 way, take the notebook to the internet cafe and PLUG it there,
make config and connect to berkeley. UL /DL

the other way, config, install new client on the internet cafe, attach to project and DL. Stop client, MOVE entire BOINC Folder/directory
from the Internet Cafe PC to your PC (my CDROM burned there, smartcard, zip drive). This will give a new entry to the host file.

But you can get work...

on the other way, better enjoy the trip.;)

have been to the canarian islands

How many cpu's to use is in general profile, so it's enough to configure in one project. ;)

But setting to anything below 1 will AFAIK be interpreted as 1, so wouldn't work.

The only sure way to currently empty a cache is increase "Leave at least N GB free" to be larger than free disk-space. This way you'll ask for more work, but don't get anything since not enough disk space.

Setting cache to zero days will AFAIK still ask for more work then empty.

Are you on NTL cable? Using the TV 'set top' box as a cable modem?
