As to the motherboard chipset, that is Intel P55, on an Asus P7P55D Pro and another on an EVGA P55 Classified 200 motherboard. Ah kk. i was wondering if you had the same bug that i have here on my PC. i saw yesterday, and i was wondering since a good month when i saw the first signs but without paying attention.. looks like i'm struck with the X38 PCIe 2.0 bug /cryyyyy probably since the very begining that this PC has been built, i cant get my MSI GTX480 working in PCIe 2.0 on this ASUS Maximus Extreme motherboard. i am running under PCIe 1.1x cause this buggy Chipset Intel® X38/ICH9R with Intel® Fast Memory Access Technology /cryyyyy i started my 2nd full day trying to research a fix or a way to make it work in 2.0 :( i found 2 forum talking about that : http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?249130-PCI-E-Gen-2.0-Bug-X38-X48-X58 http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1855175 at some point , some are talking about a SLIPatch 0.7a for Windows 7 x64. that can resolve the problem by making pass (making look) the X38 for a X58. but nowhere i cant find this http://xdevs.com/sli/SLIPatch 0.7 Win7 x64R2 alpha.zip. 404 ERROR :(( at some point also i read some had a fake 2.0 bug cause the same downclocks problems you ve got. (and this is why i ve asked which chipset you have) but me it s the real one :(( looks like ASUS and Intel send the problem to Nvidia way , which are always send it back to them :( a war that nobody want to resolve :( i even tried the last Nvidia 296.10 Drivers. nothing. still in PCIe 1.1 :( i cant make my GTX480 go 2.0 on my PC :( a terrible lost of performance i could use. ____________

I don't think so, 275.50 seems to operate correctly like 266.58 does, You could try 266.58 or 275.50 and see if one or the other will fix Yer problem.

Couldn't help but notice that you're still using initial release (403) of bios for your mobo. It never hurt to update to latest version (1302) especially when some sort of problem is present. It may not solve it, but in any case you should have some benefits. ____________ Who the hell is General Failure and why is he reading my harddisk?¿

Same thing with 266.58 and 275.50 :( Couldn't help but notice that you're still using initial release (403) of bios for your mobo. It may not solve it, but in any case you should have some benefits. ya i know :( i have the MAXIMUS-ASUS-Extreme-1302.ROM on my desktop since yesterday. i have an old floppy drive in a desk ... i m just waiting my friend comeback to me in a day or 2 with a floppy connector cable :S i couldnt find any floppy connector anywhere in my house :( i ve check all the BIOS upgrade "txt", and none are talking about this problem fix :( so i dunno. it should be written in the fix lists. ____________

Couldn't help but notice that you're still using initial release (403) of bios for your mobo. It never hurt to update to latest version (1302) especially when some sort of problem is present. It may not solve it, but in any case you should have some benefits. You don't need a floppy, try using ASUS Update V7.17.06 to update bios from within windows. I did that countless times without any problems. Of course the usual conditions for such procedure must be met. Another easy way to upgrade is from bios itself. These days it may be smarter not to use flopies at all, except if you just walk out of the store with brand new drive and pack of discs and even then you wont be 100% sure. ____________ Who the hell is General Failure and why is he reading my harddisk?¿

Got the EVGA Classified GTX590 installed and it's crunching away @ 630MHz and with the fan locked at 95%, and the voltage locked also(0.9380v), the temps are 80/89C for the 590 and 51C for the 460, Now the Silverstone ST1500 1500w psu has something to run with. So far so good, the 590 and 275.50 are getting along just fine...

ya i succeed to update it : via a CD RW 74mins. Did you try running the render test in GPU-Z to see if that changed anything? The text in that says "One of these functions reduces the PCI-Express link speed & width to lower levels to conserve power when the card is idle. This is why you might see undesired values in GPU-Z's bus interface readout." Worth a try? -Dave ____________

i ve got a first reply there... Two possibilities are the card itself or your PCIE slot on your MB. it can be a bit hard to test my GTX480 elsewhere :( i have another little PC, my old PC i ve bought a new PSU and a little VCard for making it back to work and crunch WUs... but i know it s not 2.0 capable motherboard :( it s an ASUS M2N4SLI but the little VCard i bought is a little MSI N450GTS this card i can easily test it tomorrow on my big PC, my Maximus Extreme. it should be 2.0 capable, right ? ____________

Nvidia knows about this Bug: NVIDIA graphics drivers will lock PCI Express to PCIe 1.0 speeds on Intel X38 chipsets as we have seen reports of X38 chipsets not switching properly between PCIe 1.0 and PCIe 2.0. This is expected behavior and will help to insure stability while we continue to investigate the problem Claggy

THANKS YOU Claggy. Well, got the same 'problem', with an ASUS P5E, X9650 CPU and GTX480 GPU, running in PCIe 16x ver. 1.1, although it runs ATI cards f.i. 5870 in PCIe 16x ver. 2.0 . Has to be the X38 chipset. This host . (Something completely different: all x86 WIN XP/VISTA & 7 hosts, were infected with 2 different trojans! Hidden in pagefil.sys and hyberfil.sys) Used an Avast Rescue Disk to remove them, my LT (HP Pavillion 8000) had 6 of them! Had to call my ISP (KPNPlanet) for a new MODEM, digital TV and even phone line didn't work correct! Still have to clean out my I7-2600, also infected with probably the same trojans! ____________ Knight Who Says Ni N!, OUT numbered.................

THANKS YOU Claggy. Also had to clean out the Registry, by hand using Regedt32.exe* and found remnants of Norton(2010!) and bits of AVG(2011) and lots of other Removed/Deïnstalled program remnants! Took me sevaral hours....... *%Windows\system32\regedt32.exe ____________ Knight Who Says Ni N!, OUT numbered.................

Nvidia knows about this Bug: So, i just tested tonight a HiS Radeon HD 6770 ... /cryyyy
i am wondering if i can find some drivers before that "Published 08/24/2010 11:11 AM" and check the number ID of the drivers, if it can work, to crunch seti datas and if it can make my GTX working in 2.0 ? A (NVIDIA graphics drivers THAT WILL NOT lock PCI Express to PCIe 1.0 speeds on Intel X38 chipsets) ? EDIT I Guess not :( GeForce/ION Release 260 WHQL 260.89 October 18, 2010 are the oldest i can find on Nvidia.com ____________
