Downloaded Seti@home and installed. Restarted computer and lost video completely. Changed videocards and still nothing. I have hp workstation xw8200 8g ram dual xeon 3.4g processors and nv8400gs w/256. shows harddrive activity after boot.

There are no computers attached to your account. You might need to re-try the S@H install.

AFAIK, Neither BOINC nor S@H should impact your video, unless you have a corrupt video driver. S@H MIGHT cause significant video lag if used for GPU processing, especially with a borderline GPU like the 8400.

I ran into almost the same problem about 6-9 months ago, restart into safe mode, uninstall the nvidia drivers to an earlier version (from last time I tried 283.xx or earlier) and then restart your system. Everything works good? Then research a newer and more reliable power supply in my case that was the issue, doing all the test scans and everything turned out good, but as soon as I put the card to full load I would fail always, hope this helps.
